Celebrity Big Brother is back, back, back again, arriving on ITV1 in April for its second year. David Potts – last year’s champion – has exclusively revealed which Drag Race royalty he wants to see on this year’s line-up.
As Celebrity Big Brother draws closer, the rumoured line-up grows every day. Currently, there’s a transgender reality TV icon, a Real Housewives legend, and even a Heartstopper leading star potentially entering the house.
Most recently, rumours have swirled that controversial former Conservative MP Michael Fabricant and singer Chesney Hawkes have agreed to appear, while reality TV’s Tiffany Pollard might even be making a comeback after her legendary 2016 stint.
If it were up to last year’s winner and TV personality David Potts, this year’s Celebrity Big Brother line-up would be nothing but drag queens – and maybe a Selling Sunset diva or two.
“We need a drag queen on Big Brother,” Potts exclusively told PinkNews, via Casino.org.
“I’m actually fuming there wasn’t one in there with me – because, obviously, I wanted to be put into drag. I love Drag Race, I love drag queens, and I need to see one on CBB, 100 per cent. The more queer representation, the better.”
Drag stars are known for their ability to make sublime TV, from Lily Savage to RuPaul, so Celebrity Big Brother fans were a little surprised to see that no Drag Race UK stars had signed up for the inaugural season of the ITV reboot last year.
Queer lovers of the show did get some sweet LGBTQ+ representation though, with Potts himself winning, and Heartstopper actor Bradley Riches winning over viewers.
The first two civilian seasons of ITV’s Big Brother were also won by queer folk, with bisexual lawyer Jordan Sangha winning season one, and lesbian psychologist Ali Bromley winning season two in November.
“That’s what I love about Big Brother – it brings together people from all walks of life, different races, sexualities, and genders. It’s not just one type of person, and that’s what makes it so special,” Potts continued.
As for which Drag Race superstar he wants to see on the Celebrity Big Brother line-up, there’s quite a few.
“I’d love to see Divina de Campo, Cheryl Hole, or just Cheryl now, Kyran Thrax – our newest winner – La Voix, or Danny Beard. Honestly, chuck them all in. Imagine a spin-off – Big Brother: Gays Only. Now that would be a show,” he laughed.
If any of those queens seems most likely, it’s Drag Race UK season four winner Danny Beard, who has been heavily rumoured to be a contestant for some time now.
They appeared as a guest on the show last year, and The Sun has reported that Danny has agreed to join the original celebrity experiment for the new season.
“I’d also love to see some reality stars in there – maybe a Selling Sunset girly,” Potts added.
“A feisty one. That would be iconic… Now that I’ve been in there, I’d actually love to see some arguments! [laughs] As long as I’m not involved, give me all the drama.”
Mother AJ Odudu and heartthrob Will Best will return as hosts of Celebrity Big Brother, which returns to ITV and ITVX on 7 April 2025.
