Washington Capitals defenseman Alex Alexeyev went to court on Wednesday for his May 17 public intoxication arrest.

According to Russian outlet TASS, Alexeyev was issued a $91 fine, which he must pay by October 21. If Alexeyev maintains “good behavior” until that October date, his class 4 misdemeanor charge may be dropped.

The 25-year-old defender was booked into the Arlington County jail after being pepper-sprayed following a physical confrontation in the Clarendon neighborhood of Arlington. Alexeyev’s booking photo showed him still missing several teeth due to a high stick he took in the mouth during the Capitals’ first-round playoff series.

Alexeyev is a restricted free agent this summer after featuring in 18 combined regular-season and postseason games for the Capitals this past year. Brian MacLellan, the Caps’ president of hockey operations, stated that the club would like to get the Russian blueliner into more games moving forward.

The 2018 first-round draft selection has played parts of four seasons with the Capitals, getting into 80 career NHL games. In those games, Alexeyev has eight career points (1g, 7a).
