Lindsay Hubbard caused some fireworks of her own on the Fourth of July when she announced she is pregnant with her first baby. But while she says her boyfriend is "so excited" to be a dad, there's something he's not excited about: being in the public eye.
The Summer House star tells PEOPLE that her beau, whom she started dating in January, has asked that he stay out of the spotlight — especially as filming kicks off for season 9 of the hit Bravo show.
"He's a private person, mostly because of his high-powered job," says Hubbard of her man, a doctor who works in biotech investing. "Obviously, I'm a very public [person] and share pretty much every aspect of my life with the world, so I know it's weird. But I need to respect his privacy here."
Hubbard first opened up about her relationship during the Summer House season 8 reunion in June, revealing that she was seeing "a wonderful man."
The two had dated "three and a half years ago," Hubbard said, but reconnected in December 2023 — four months after Hubbard's castmate Carl Radke, 39, ended their engagement ahead of their scheduled wedding.
"I would say it's tracking in the pretty serious direction," she said at the time. "He’s been a great support."
Turns out, Hubbard was pregnant at the time of the reunion's filming, something her boyfriend was well aware of. She had learned of her happy news weeks earlier, after noticing she was late for her period and taking a Clearblue Digital Early Pregnancy Test.
"Obviously, it was a surprise and a shock at first because we were not trying or even planning, but we had some honest conversations and it just felt so right for both of us," Hubbard says. "He's just so excited to be a dad and proud to be having a child with me. It just means the world to have someone like him by my side."
The two have "a very loving, caring and healthy relationship," Hubbard tells PEOPLE.
"He's a really loving man. Sweet and nurturing and understanding," she says. "He's highly emotionally intelligent. He's probably one of the smartest guys I've ever met, and really handsome, of course."
"I finally feel like I met my match with him," she continues. "And yes, it is a lot of pressure on a new relationship, but I think because he's the right man because we are so bonded and connected and communicate very effectively with each other that it hasn't felt like work."
Hubbard adds, "You know, I've almost made terrible mistakes in my past because of a biological clock that we naturally as women have, and this is the one time where it just all feels so right. I'm just so lucky that the universe put us back in orbit of each other."
