JACK P Shepherd left This Morning's hosts horrified as he let slip a HUGE show spoiler live on air - but was he telling the truth?
Soap expert Sharon Marshall, 53, couldn't conceal her shock as Jack, 37, who plays David Platt on the soap, seemingly revealed the fate of his character today.
In scenes airing at 8pm this evening, David is left fighting for his life after a brutal hit-and-run.
His life hangs in the balance as he’s struck by a car, with the twist being that Daisy Midgeley, who is pregnant, is also hit in the collision as she dashes out of the pub.
As the drama unfolds, David is tended to by his partner, Shona Platt, but it’s clear that he’s severely injured and bleeding out.
Meanwhile, Kit Green calls an ambulance, while Jenny Connor and Daniel Osbourne rush to Daisy’s side, frantic for her baby’s safety.
Appearing on This Morning via video link from the Corrie studios, Jack spoke about his character's turbulent storyline and hinted at the shocking turn of events.
Reflecting on his 25-year tenure, he said, "Yeah, 25 years, it's a long time, I think it's 25 years next month."
However, it was his unexpected revelation that took everyone by surprise.
He confessed: "It would have been nice to kind of reach that milestone but... sadly, tonight's the end, so... but I've loved every minute of it!"
The announcement left the hosts visibly stunned, with Ben Shephard asking, "Jack, is tonight the actual end for your character?"
Cat Deeley added: "Do we believe him?"
Coronation Street’s Jack P Shepherd reveals soap bosses ‘lied’ about iconic storyline admitting ‘we didn’t have the time or the money’
Jack confirmed, "Yeah! I can't believe we've managed to keep it out for so long but I think everybody will enjoy it!"
Sharon was left speechless, saying: "Well, its... I... I cannot say how it ends tonight. It has been kept under wraps but you're definitely not filming today.
"You have come in on a day that you're not... he's not filming on the set at the moment. Those are his clothes, not David's."
Jack certainly has a break in his schedule coming up as, just this week, The Sun revealed he's expected to star in this year's Celebrity Big Brother.
A TV insider said: “The two lads are great mates, and Colson no doubt told Jack he'd have the time of his life on the show.
"Jack will be making the most of a gap in appearing on Corrie, which comes as he's about to be at the centre of a huge storyline on the ITV soap.
"His character David will be seen getting left for dead after being hit by a car on the cobbles - but it will transpire it's actually a bizarre attempt to end his own life.”
The new series of CBB - the second since it was rebooted on ITV - is expected to air this spring though ITV have yet to confirm a launch date.
Coronation Street Spoilers: News & Cast Updates
The beloved British soap has been captivating audiences for decades.
Jack has been a member of the Corrie cast for 24 years and first appeared as the son of Gail and Martin Platt when he was 13 years old.
Since then he's been at the heart of some of the soap's biggest storylines, the most recent of which has seen him getting targeted by gangster Harvey Gaskell, to whom he owes massive debts.
But he rarely appears on reality TV shows, having previously only been on a handful of gameshows and Ghosthunting with Coronation Street in 2008.
So far other names linked to the show include former Love Islander Chris Hughes and Towie's Ella Rae Wise are among the other names rumoured to be going into the house.
A spokesman for ITV said: “Any names linked to the Celebrity Big Brother line up are purely speculative.”
