Logan Thompson will make his second consecutive start for the Capitals.
ARLINGTON, V.A. — The Washington Capitals prepped for their tilt against the Florida Panthers with an optional morning skate, where Logan Thompson elected to take the rest ahead of puck drop, as he'll be starting on Tuesday.
Per coach Spencer Carbery, the team is deciding between its goaltenders on a "game-by-game" basis, and for this particular matchup, the team wanted to go back to Thompson, who started back on Saturday in the 5-4 overtime loss to the Winnipeg Jets.
"Just Florida, home, Logan, how he's played. We decided as a staff that he'll start tonight," Carbery said.
With Thompson starting again, Washington won't have any lineup changes on Tuesday, as the lines will stay the same as they were to start Saturday against the Jets. The Capitals will also stick with their modified power-play units against Florida.
Here are the projected lines:
Alex Ovechkin-Dylan Strome-Tom Wilson
Aliaksei Protas-Pierre-Luc Dubois-Connor McMichael
Taylor Raddysh-Lars Eller-Ethen Frank
Brandon Duhaime-Nic Dowd-Andrew Mangiapane
Rasmus Sandin-John Carlson
Martin Fehervary-Matt Roy
Jakob Chychrun-Trevor van Riemsdyk
Logan Thompson
Charlie Lindgren
PP1: Alex Ovechkin, John Carlson, Connor McMichael, Dylan Strome, Tom Wilson
PP2: Jakob Chychrun, Taylor Raddysh (Ovechkin placeholder), Aliaksei Protas, Pierre-Luc Dubois, Ethen Frank
In other news, Sonny Milano joined the team again for its morning skate but remains in a non-contact jersey. There is no update on his timetable as he continues to progress and work his way back.
The 26-year-old hasn't played since Nov. 6 against the Nashville Predators, where he suffered an upper-body injury that's kept him on the long-term injured reserve.
Puck drop is at 7 p.m. ET at Capital One Arena.
