The 20th-anniversary series of Strictly has been somewhat tainted after the BBC show was embroiled in scandal in a year plagued with controversy.
Earlier this year, the BBC also failed to address the scandal during the launch episode even though the results of the misconduct investigation were still pending.
It all began last October when actress Amanda Abbington, 52, unexpectedly quit the show before claiming that her partner Giovanni Pernice, 34, was abusive towards her.
The Sherlock actress made a series of accusations about Giovanni's teaching methods and described his behaviour as 'unnecessary, abusive, cruel and mean'. He strongly denies all of the claims.

Giovanni was suspended while a BBC probe went underway over the allegations made by Amanda and two other former celebrity partners.
In September, Amanda was deeply disappointed with BBC bosses over fears they were 'protecting' the dancer during the bullying probe.
After Giovanni, the show was hit with a fresh wave of scandal when Graziano Di Prima, 30, was sacked in July for 'kicking' his partner Love Island star Zara McDermott, 27.
Zara explained she didn't report the incidents at the time as she was 'scared' of backlash.
Instead, it was junior production staff who came forward to share what they had witnessed as the investigation into pro dancer Giovanni was taking place.
Zara told her followers that while much of her time on Strictly 'was everything I could have dreamt of' inside the training room with Graziano there were 'particular incidents which are incredibly distressing'.
The Mail on Sunday has recently revealed that Giovanni is set to appear on the show's 20th-anniversary special despite Amanda's pleas.
It is unlikely that Amanda will make an appearance, with one Strictly insider pointing out that she was only one of 250 or so celebrities who have taken part – and she quit before the end.
Bosses were particularly insistent that Giovanni be given a starring role in the special episode, which is due to be aired on December 21, because he won a Bafta for its Must-See Moment – his and deaf actress Rose Ayling-Ellis's powerful silent dance to Clean Bandit's Symphony in 2021.
The moment was seen by more than ten million viewers and received 2.1 million views on YouTube.

His appearance could also pave the way for his return to the show as a professional dancer as early as next year, though it is understood Amanda is against this.
A BBC insider said: 'Given his impact, particularity for the Bafta win – which was voted for by the public – it is only the obtuse who would think that Giovanni should not be included in the 20th-year reflections in some form.'
'Giovanni has made an immense impact on Strictly and will absolutely not be erased from Strictly Come Dancing's history.'
'What he and Rose did was incredible and just because Amanda has come along and made allegations, many of which were not upheld, does not change that.'
'Strictly's bosses love Gio, they feel strongly about what happened, and they see it is as only right that he is celebrated.'
'Amanda may have met with the BBC recently, when she aired her views about Giovanni and the show, but Strictly still adores Gio and its bosses know that viewers will be thrilled to see him back.'
