Strictly Come Dancing's Gorka Marquez has finally shared why wedding bells haven't rung for him and fiancée Gemma Atkinson. The much-loved professional, since joining the BBC dance competition in 2016, is now a pivotal figure among the dancing troupes. It was during his stint on the glittering dance floor in 2017 that the 34 year old met his partner, Gemma Atkinson. Despite getting engaged in 2021, their wedding has been postponed multiple times — once due to the coronavirus outbreak, and also owing to the arrival of their two children: their daughter Mia, aged five, and two year old son Thiago.

Gorka has recently spilt the beans regarding their wedding timeline, expressing a desire to wait until "both the kids can walk down the aisle and be a part of the day."

Opening up to Heat magazine's latest edition, he remarked: "We're going to get married, but we are happy how we are. We have two children, so it doesn't matter if we sign a document or not." He added: "We wanted to get married, but then we had Mia and then COVID happened. After that, we got pregnant with Thiago, and Gemma didn't want to get married pregnant.", reports Liverpool Echo.

He added: "Then after the pregnancy, she wanted to get in shape. But once Thiago is old enough, both the kids can walk down the aisle and be a part of the day."

Hints about a potential 2026 wedding surfaced when Gemma fielded marriage-related questions from her Instagram fans. One follower probed: "Will you be getting married soon?", prompting her to hint: "Possibly next year... We've been back and forth about registry offices/going to Spain."

She indicated her contentment with an intimate wedding alongside family, saying: "None of us want a big fuss or lots of guests so we may just go and do it with just family and come back and have a huge party! I've never wanted a big white wedding. More than happy with a lovely small one. We feel married anyway."

Gorka echoed the sentiment about their familial bond, expressing on social media: "In our heads, we're married already. Marriage these days doesn't have as much value, it's not like the old days. I think the value is in the compromise with one another."

The couple, who attribute their strength to an excellent partnership, especially in parenting, find balance even when work keeps them apart.

Further shedding light on their dynamic, Gorka added: "The good thing about Gemma and I is that we're a great team. For example, she just had a weekend away with her friends because they got it for her 40th birthday. So I stayed with the children, and I absolutely loved it."
