Love Island finalist Sean Stone has revealed his regret over 'getting wrapped up' in controversial friendship with Joey Essex during his time the villa.

The sweet salesman, 24, who finished in third place alongside Matilda Draper, said that he should have spent his time concentrating on his 'own relationship' after he and the TOWIE star, 34, were accused of 'pot-stirring'.

Fans slammed the pair and 253 viewers issued a complaint to Ofcom about their treatment towards fellow islanders during the Grafties Awards.

Speaking following the final, Sean was asked about his regrets, saying:  'Probably I could have been a bit more screwed on. I probably got wrapped up in things with the Joey friendship and how that panned out'.

'Maybe I should have held back more in some scenarios, like with the  [eventual winners] Josh and Mimii situation. I should have just focused on myself and my relationships more. By the end of course we were all great friends'.

Viewers had also accused Sean of acting out of character in a bid to secure the friendship of reality TV veteran.

Joey was engulfed in further controversy after asking Josh a bizarre question following his 'awkward' talent show rap.

The rap included mentions of all his fellow Islanders and as the klaxon to indicate his time on the stage was up went off for a third time, everyone applauded, but Joey quipped: 'Wait, wait, wait. When I say secret - you say mission. Secret...'

This resulted in an awkward silence, with Joey asking: 'Anyone? Well that didn't go that well did it?'

In the latest episode, Joey and Josh got into a heated row over the incident, with the reality star asking: 'Surely you aren't offended by my rap?'

An unimpressed Josh responded: 'Don't patronise me'

Joey, who was voted out with Jessy Potts on Sunday, was branded the 'main villain' of the season after 'egging on' the other Islanders to betray their couples.

Reaching the final week, irritations with Joey's 'pot-stirring' reached boiling point and he won the award in a very explosive Grafties episode.

The Islanders were nominated for categories voted for by the public which included 'It's Giving One Sided' and 'Most Dramatic Performance.'

Joey took centre stage for the most part where he was nominated for three awards Ultimate Pot Stirrer, Flirtiest Performance and Unfinished Business category.

For the Flirtiest Performance award, his conversations with bombshell Lola were aired on the big screen for all to see, leaving his partner Jessy Potts less than impressed with his antics as she said: 'Well you used the trouble maker line on me first… if she put in more of a graft would you have failed the test?'
