EXCLUSIVE: Loose Women star Brenda Edwards has shared what she would say to X Factor judge Simon Cowell nowadays after she was criticised in her ITV audition for the show
Loose Women star Brenda Edwards first shot to fame on The X Factor but had a rather bumpy start.
When Brenda auditioned for the show back in 2005, she felt as if she was dug out by head judge Simon Cowell for her appearance. Speaking on Loose Women, Brenda said: "When I did X Factor in 2005 I went on the show, I thought I looked alright, to be honest, and I was in front of the judges.
"I didn’t have audition clothes to wear so I pulled whatever I had out of the case and put it on because I wasn’t actually thinking I was going to get an audition. I got in front of the judges and lovely Simon said to me, 'What have you come as?'
"For me, as much as he didn’t use the word fat, that’s what I took as an interpretation and I went home and I was really quite down and depressed."
When speaking exclusively to Daily Star, she revealed what she would say to him if she saw him again. Brenda said: "I haven't seen him. I've been too busy working, but if I did bump into him, I'd say 'Hi Simon, remember me?'
"But he hasn't got anything to apologise for, it's fine. It's in the past. I don't hold grudges and I'm very grateful for the platform that I was given because I wouldn't be doing what I'm doing now. And I know that sounds cheesy but I mean it."
When asked if she would love to help out with a potential reboot, she said: "I'd love to, without doing X Factor, I wouldn't have the platform that I have to be doing all the great work that I can do to spread awareness for all these amazing campaigns. I'm very grateful. If they ask me, I say bring it on."
Brenda, 55, spoke exclusively to the Daily Star as she has joined forces with GenesisCare - the UK’s leading specialist cancer care provider - to launch a campaign to drive awareness of the symptoms of secondary breast cancer.
The TV star, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and is focusing on spreading awareness for the disease. The presenter also revealed that she is now nine years cancer-free.
She explained: "I'm really glad that I'm nine years free of cancer now and here to be able to help spread positive messages for other cancer survivors and for other people going through cancer and at the different stages that they are.
"The main message to get across, is, no matter how small or how insignificant you think something might be, you know your body, you know if something isn't right, so get it checked out as quickly as possible."
Brenda will also be featured in the powerful new Second Chance photography exhibition which includes a series of striking, anatomical close-up images of her chest, stomach, back, head and skin. Each image aims to highlight a key area of the body where secondary breast cancer is most likely to strike and the most common symptoms to look out for.
