The nightmare meet had it all, as the star dished the gory details on a dream date gone disastrously wrong
It's the dream of many young women to score a date with a Hollywood actor.
But one Loose Women star's dream date with a Hollywood heartthrob quickly turned into a nightmare. Sherrie Hewson has now revealed how, as an 18-year-old, an encounter with a silver screen legend went disastrously wrong.
The former Coronation Street actress met none other than the King of Cool, Steve McQueen, when he visited her drama school in the 1970s. Sherrie explained how she was picked to accompany McQueen on his first bus ride.
But, she explained how the pair got off on the wrong foot immediately thanks to one odd choice, which she said McQueen found "absolutely horrific". The movie star, 20 years her senior, was left shocked when Sherrie chose to go barefoot during their trip.
"He thought it was absolutely horrific, which it was," she recalled. "I was 18, and he was 20 years older.
"Afterwards, his people wanted to say thank you, so they took me to a restaurant in Chelsea."
However, the ITV star faced another hurdle once they had arrived. With the menu written in French, she made a dreadful error with her order, reports Wales Online.
Having accientally ordered clam chowder, Sherrie's fish allergy came out in full force. In an interview with Best Magazine, the 74-year-old recounted the embarrassing aftermath: "I was eating clam chowder and after a few mouthfuls, I projectile vomited over him.
"He was wearing a white polo neck sweater, which he always wore, and his people rushed in and dragged me out of the restaurant and onto the pavement." But the ordeal didn't end there.
Sherrie admitted that she also vomited over the actor's shoes and trousers when he stepped outside. Recalling the harsh reaction from his team, she said: "They threw me into a black cab and yelled 'Get her out of here'."
As she was driven away, Sherrie saw Steve McQueen covered in vomit through the window and ruefully said: "As I drove off, I could see Steve McQueen from the window, covered in sick and I thought he'll never marry me now."
During a conversation with the publication, Sherrie also opened up about her love life post-divorce. Following her separation from her second husband Ken Boyd, with whom she shares a daughter, the actress confessed that she hasn't "felt the urge to go near anyone else again" since their split.
The duo were together for an impressive 28 years before parting ways in 2001. Prior to this, Sherrie's first marriage was to artist Hector Blamey but their union lasted just two years, ending in divorce in 1974.
