Denise Welch was left overcome with emotion as she opened up about parts of The 1975 frontman's childhood
Loose Women star Denise Welch became emotional while live on air as she admitted her wish to "re-do" Matty Healy's childhood.
The 67-year-old TV star has previously opened up about her battles with addiction during her younger years, before choosing to be sober 13 years ago.
Denise has been married two times previously, with one of her most notable relationships with actor Tim Healy who she shares two children with.
In 2013, the Loose Women star married Lincoln Townley after first meeting in a nightclub. Their wedding took place in a private villa on the Algarve, and while they're still happily married Denise has always been honest about their personal journey.
During Tuesday's (8th July) instalment of Loose Women, Christine Lampard led the panel as Coleen Nolan, Denise Welch and Nadia Sawalha joined her on the panel.
As they discussed living in the moment, Denise became emotional as she confessed: "When you do reflect you have to forgive yourself for realising... I always get emotional because I wish that I could re-do bits of particularly Matty's (Healy) childhood, because I was coping with addictions and self-medication..."
The star teared up as Nadia offered her reassurance and labelled Denise as "the most proud, present mum", to which she responded: "Matty and I talk about it, and we're so close I just wish I could do it again".
As Christine mentioned Matty headlining Glastonbury with his band The 1975, Denise added: "I'm incredibly proud, it's just when I look at things, why couldn't I? You know..."
Earlier this year, Denise opened up about her previous battles with alcoholism and how Lincoln helped her face her problem. In an Instagram post she shared two photos side by side of her 13 years ago, and her now.
She wrote: "My husband, then boyfriend, was watching me and he threw a newspaper on the bed. It was me. Papped. Leaning over the bonnet of a car shouting at someone and pointing. No recollection. The bathroom door of his flat had been pulled of its hinges and a lamp lay on the floor.
"Lincoln had stopped drinking 2 months before. I had told him I didn't have as big of a problem. I did. A huge one. He told me he loved me but he couldn't live like this. The thought of losing him terrified me. I was depressed, anxious, scared, embarrassed, appalled at my behaviour and full of shame.
"I gave up drinking that night. It is the best decision I have ever made. Not just because I now have an amazing marriage to the love of my life, but because our 3 children can live their lives knowing that we're safe and happy. Their lives aren't led never knowing what or where we'll end up."
Loose Women airs on weekdays at 12:30pm on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX.
