Jake Paul believes that Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou’s touted ‘super-fight’ could be the perfect swan song for both men.
The controversial YouTuber-turned-boxer has an equity stake in PFL, who would be represented in this cross-promotional battle by Ngannou. He has long been an admirer of Jones, who has offered to put his UFC heavyweight title on the line against his long-time rival.
Ngannou has never been shy about his interest in fighting Jones, but the bout would require an unprecedented co-promotion between UFC and PFL. While the latter are keen, getting the former’s boss Dana White to agree seems an insurmountable obstacle.
Jake Paul backs Jon Jones callout of Francis Ngannou
Last night, Jon Jones enraged fans as he appeared to snub Tom Aspinall in favor of a different challenge altogether. He took to X to call out Francis Ngannou, who is technically the ‘lineal’ UFC heavyweight champion after leaving the promotion with the title.
The potential super-fight, which both men have eagerly pushed for since 2023, has captured the imagination of the MMA public since Jones teased it last night. The callout followed coach Eric Nicksick’s comments indicating that Ngannou might be interested in a return to the UFC.
Jake Paul, who owns a small part of PFL, has taken to social media to give his take, and he is all for the promotion vs promotion clash.
“The perfect final dance for the two greatest MMA heavyweights of all time,” Paul wrote in a tweet about the potential bout. “Jon Jones wants it. Francis Ngannou wants it. Big fight for the sport. Big fight for the fans and Big business. Who doesn’t want it?”
Francis Ngannou has responded to Jon Jones’ callout
Upon hearing Nicksick’s comments, Jones wrote in his initial message last night: “I’m hearing Francis Ngannou is still interested… now we’re talking. That’s a real super fight. A clash of champions, not just hype.
“He held the UFC belt, I’ve defended mine for over a decade. Two kings from different roads. Not just one legend facing a mouth that’s hot right now, but two real legacies colliding. That’s the kind of fight that actually adds something special to my story. At least from my point of view.”
Ngannou noted that both men would have to deal with promoters who are not fans of the other, telling Jones: “You take care of the UFC, I’ll take care of the PFL, and we’ll finally find out who’s the KING OF THE HEAVYWEIGHT.”
