The Washington Capitals played one of their best games in what seemed like a long time in a 4-1 win over the Florida Panthers on Monday night. On Wednesday Nov. 27 the Caps will be back in action on TNT and MAX as they'll travel to Tampa Bay to face the Lightning at 7:30 p.m.
It was 1-1 after two periods. The Caps only found themselves in a 1-0 hole before Lars Eller scored his first of two goals on the night inlcuding one of the empty net goals to seal the win. It upped Eller's goal total to six which includes two since donning the Capitals uniform after the trade. Ivan Miroshnichenko would add an empty netter of his own while Jakob Chychrun's sixth of the season turned out to be the game winner as it was a power play goal 1:18 into the third period.
The Caps went 1 for 4 overall on the power play which is good for 25 percent compared to the Cats 0 for 4 night on the man advantage. Eller has scored 89 of his 184 career goals with the Capitals. Chychrun's game winner was huge. He also had two assists for three points earning himself the first star of the night. It's his third multi point game of the season.
Chychrun's six goals this season are tied for the second most among NHL defensemen. Only Cale Makar of the Colorado Avalanche has more with eight. Dylan Strome had the primary assist on Chychrun's goal for his team leading 23rd of the season. Entering Monday night's game he ranked tied for third in the NHL in assists.
Tom Wilson had the secondary assist on Chychrun's goal for his ninth of the year. Wilson has recordd 11 points with six goals and five assists in his last 10 games against Florida. It was also a Chychrun game winning goal in his home state of Florida with his dad and all the other Caps Dads and Mentors in attendance.
