Season 8 “Dancing With the Stars” champ Shawn Johnson wants her husband, Andrew East, to compete on an upcoming season of the show!
“Dancing With the Stars’ is one of my favorite things I’ve ever done in my entire life,” Johnson told EntertainmentNOW at the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women Red Dress Collection Concert on Thursday, January 30. “Everybody there is like family,” she continued.
“I just want to get him on now!” Johnson said, turning to her husband. “He has to be on ‘Dancing With the Stars next!”
Aside from being Johnson’s husband, East is actually a retired NFL player, which seems to make him a qualified candidate for the show.
Shawn Johnson Has Previously Expressed a Desire for Andrew East to Compete on DWTS
In February 2023, Johnson expressed an interest in getting her husband on “Dancing With the Stars.”
At the time, she took to her Instagram Stories to share a dance video and added the caption, “Let’s get @andreweast on @dancingwiththestars!!!!!”
If East was asked to join “Dancing With the Stars,” it wouldn’t be the first time that a husband and wife duo competed on the show.
On season 21, Alexa PenaVega and her husband Carlos PenaVega competed on the same season; she finished 6th and he finished 4th. On season 2, Lisa Rinna competed. The following season, her husband Harry Hamlin joined the cast.
Andrew East Showed Off His Dance Skills Alongside His Wife & DWTS Judge Derek Hough
In February 2023, East showed off his dance skills in a video that Johnson posted on Instagram. In the video, East joined Johnson and her All-Stars partner Derek Hough to recreate a dance from their season.
The comments section quickly filled up with fans suggesting that East be cast on “Dancing With the Stars.”
“Get Andrew on DWS pronto,” one person wrote.
“Andrew should totally go on it now,” someone else said.
“@andrewdeast needs to be on the next season on DWTS,” a third comment read.
“Someone put Andrew on DWTS. He would totally win,” a fourth Instagram user added.
It seems as though Johnson is just joking around about getting her husband on the show. However, chances are high that he would join if given the opportunity. Of course, if it did end up happening, Johnson will be East’s biggest cheerleader!
