Exclusive: Amanda Abbington makes bid for huge ITV show after Strictly scandal and Giovanni sacking liennhi

AMANDA Abbington has revealed the huge ITV daytime show she'd love to be a part of after her Strictly Come Dancing scandal.

The actress, 51, has landed a couple of stage roles since her time on the BBC programme and fallout with axed Giovanni Pernice.

And an unexpected foray into the world of panel shows could be on the cards next after Amanda revealed she's a big fan of Loose Women and its stars.

When asked if joining the programme appealed to her, Amanda said: "Yes, totally. It’s nice to have women’s views on things, and I think as long as we don’t paint ourselves as miserable old hags.

"I think women of a certain age tend to get painted as miserable and moaning and complaining, and I think it would be good to get up there and have fun. They’re great women, and I know a few of them, like Denise [Welch], I love her."

A cosy cuppa inside the West London studio is a more appealing proposition than the bright lights of tinseltown.

Her ex Martin Freeman has starred in a number of big-budget shows and films across the pond including the Hobbit trilogy and the dark crime drama Fargo.

But Amanda, whose credits include Sherlock and Mr Selfridge, isn't interested in cracking the States.

She said: "No, I don’t really want to go to America. I like my career here, and I’m happy to do theatre and telly here, and just be.

"I’m a bit of a homebody. I like to be at home with my family and friends – America has never really appealed to me. It’s just not my cup of tea, especially now."

While Oscar glory might not be on the horizon, she still dreams of receiving top honours on these shores in the form of a prestigious Bafta.

She said: "That’s what I’m working towards. That’s the dream. It would be lovely, but I don’t do it for the award.

My Strictly ordeal with Giovanni was so toxic I was relieved when cancer scare meant I could quit, says Amanda Abbington

"I love acting, and I love telling stories, and if that comes with it, then that’s a happy bonus. It would be lovely, but I think if you are doing it for that [a Bafta], then you are doing it for the wrong reasons."

Last year Amanda starred in the harrowing When It Happens To You, playing the mother of the victim of rape.

Her latest gig, (This Is Not A) Happy Room, is about a dysfunctional family and has drawn comparisons to hit film Saltburn.

While her acting career is full steam ahead, last week Amanda revealed she's been forced to delay her wedding until 2026.

She has been engaged to former daredevil Jonathan Goodwin since 2021, calling him her rock and heart.

Amanda told The Times she and her fiancé intended to wed this year but delayed their nuptials due to "litigation", which, according to the publication, is about Jonathan.

She said: "Last year was one of the worst years of my entire life.

"I was very close to having a breakdown because of the constant barrage of abuse and hideousness.

"And you just think, "How can I refuel the positivity?". And Jonathan was amazing.

"My friends were amazing. My kids were wonderful, though I was trying to shield them from it."

She began dating former Britain's Got Talent star Jonathan five years after her "painful" split from Freeman with whom she shares two children.

After knowing each other for a few years, Amanda and Jonathan got together in 2021 after talking online.

Amanda took part in Strictly in 2023, where she was partnered with Giovanni Pernice.

The BBC conducted a probe last year into allegations she made about her former dance partner.

In their report - which was released in September - the BBC upheld six of the 17 complaints Amanda made and apologised publicly to her.

Sources said that those upheld related to verbal bullying and harassment.

But the most serious allegations of physical aggression were not upheld.
