Sasha Farber met his best friend in 2016 when he adopted his dog, Ruby.
The small, fluffy pup started as his foster pet, but Farber fell hard for Ruby and decided to make her his forever pet and dance partner.
Since adopting Ruby, the Dancing with the Stars professional and his pup have travelled America together, facing a myriad of adventures.
"She's been on so many Dancing with the Stars tours, I want to say over eight tours. She's been through everything with me, through breakups and a bus crash on a tour we had once," Farabr tells PEOPLE about the dog, who he believes is around 10, though she is often mistaken for a puppy.
Having Ruby on tour turned what could've been an overwhelming or isolating experience into fond memories for Farber.
"I would wake up in a different city every night, but I would wake up with her. Ruby's been to so many different cities and coffee shops. It was that time of her life," the dancer says about how Ruby took to touring.
All of this time on the road has deeply bonded Farber and Ruby, so when People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) asked the duo if they were interested in appearing in a pet adoption campaign, the answer was "Absolutely!'
"We did a fun little thing where I got to dance with Ruby," Farber says of the new PETA campaign, which encourages animal lovers to "Partner Up with Adoption."
Ruby had no problem nailing the moves for the campaign, according to her dog dad.
"Ruby is quite the smart one. She does tricks. She spins, she dances, she kisses, she shakes, she rolls," Farber shares.
The dancer dreams of one day starting a travel TV show with his adventurous pup, on which they ping-pong around the world, helping to rescue stray animals and exploring the dances and cultures of other countries.
For now, Farber and his "little firecracker" are excited to raise awareness about the joys of pet adoption and the power of love.
"All you've got to do is show a rescue pet a little bit of love, and that's it. They are yours for life; they will do anything for you. And that's something so beautiful," the DWTS star shares.
