 Alex Ovechkin

Alex Ovechkin became the NHL’s all-time greatest goal-scorer when he notched his 895th career goal on April 6 against the New York Islanders. Ovechkin received gifts from the NHL and Capitals for reaching the mark. He also appeared to just get a surprise in the mail.

Over the weekend, Ovechkin’s wife, Nastya, showed off a gift they received from former soccer great David Beckham on her Instagram Story.

Beckham signed a pair of white Adidas Copa Mundial cleats with the message, “Huge congrats on scoring 895 goals a few more than me. Love, David Beckham.” He included his number 7 from his time with Manchester United.

Beckham, who scored 127 goals in his career, is currently the president and co-owner of the MLS franchise Inter Miami CF, near where Ovechkin owns a second American home. One of the greatest players of his generation, Beckham played for 21 seasons, suiting up for Manchester United, Preston North End, Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, AC Milan, and Paris Saint-Germain, before hanging up his cleats for good in 2013.

Ovechkin has long been a huge soccer fan and claims Lionel Messi as his favorite player. He suited up for his hometown soccer team, Dynamo Moscow FC, in the summer of 2022 for a scrimmage. Not only did Ovechkin score a goal, but he also delivered a huge hit, mirroring his play during his legendary hockey career.

Since breaking Wayne Gretzky’s NHL goals record, Ovechkin has received a golden stick, giant sculpture, a Rolex watch from the Capitals; a Rolex from Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin; and a day from Washington DC mayor Muriel Bowser. The Capitals also honored Ovechkin with Gr8ness goats at a ceremony at Capital One Arena.
