Jake Carter surprised his beau and former dance partner, Karen Byrne, by proposing as she took part in DWTS rehearsals
RTÉ Dancing With the Stars fans will be elated with Jake Carter’s romantic proposal to his former dance partner and show judge Karen Byrne.
The Liverpool native country singer surprised Dubliner Byrne, who taught her partner how to dance on the show in 2018 and went on to claim victory together.
Carter took their dog Lenny onto the dancefloor, while Ms Byrne was in rehearsals for this weekend’s show.
“Hello missus, seven years ago, we met on this dancefloor and both our lives changed forever,” he told a stunned Byrne.
Kneeling down and holding a ring box up to her, he added: “It’s the perfect place to come back and ask, Karen, will you marry me?” Byrne burst into tears and hugged her new fiancé.
Amid the tears, Byrne, who became a judge on the show this season, asked “Are you for real, Jake?”. At which he responded: “Is it a ‘yes’?”. The judge responded “Yes”.
Speaking on tonight’s show, Byrne explained how she was filming a scene to be included in tonight’s show when Carter surprised her on set with the proposal.
“They [producers] asked me to do a handover of the trophy, they were like, its the last time, you won it last year and it would be nice to hand it over and we’ll do a lovely VT. I was like, isn’t that lovely?
"I never expected that,” she said.
Carter shared his proposal on Instagram to the musical backdrop of one of the most iconic love songs of all time, Can’t help falling in love, originally performed by Elvis Presley. However, Carter chose former American Idol singer Haley Reinhart’s version of the song.
