The Washington Capitals are fitting in some final scouting ahead of next week’s 2025 NHL Draft.
According to Hockey News Hub, the Caps have sent scout Maxim Mayorov down to Miami, Florida for this year’s Gold Star Hockey development camp. Gold Star Hockey is an agency, headed by founder and CEO Dan Milstein, that represents many of the top Russian NHL players, including Nikita Kucherov, Andrei Vasilevskiy, Mikhail Sergachev, Ilya Sorokin, and others, such as the Capitals’ Belarusian duo of Aliaksei and Ilya Protas.
From June 20 through 26, draft-eligible Gold Star Hockey clients will be put through a training camp under the guidance of former NHL forward Sergei Samsonov and have the chance to meet with representatives from NHL teams ahead of this year’s draft.
Per Hockey News Hub, attending prospects of interest to the Capitals, who have five picks in the upcoming draft, include goaltender Semyon Frolov, forward Alexander Zharovsky, goaltender Pyotr Andreyanov, defenseman Maxim Agafonov, goaltender Ivan Tkach-Tkachenko, and goaltender Yevgeni Prokhorov.
Andreyanov and Frolov are the first and second-ranked international goalies by NHL Central Scouting, and Zharovsky is the fifth-ranked international forward. A complete list of attendees is not yet available, so there may be other names the Capitals are getting a last look at before the draft.
Mayorov, the known Capitals’ representative at the camp, is a Uzbekistani-Russian former NHL winger who played parts of four seasons with the Columbus Blue Jackets (2008-2012) and finished his playing days in the KHL with Traktor Chelyabinsk.
He’ll be joined at the event by personnel from the other 31 NHL teams, including notable figures such as Philadelphia Flyers general manager Daniel Briere and Florida Panthers advisor Roberto Luongo.
