The Washington Capitals made a series of roster moves on Saturday afternoon ahead of their game against the St. Louis Blues.
Washington announced they have recalled Mike Sgarbossa from the AHL’s Hershey Bears and activated Jakob Chychrun from the injured reserve. Sonny Milano has been placed on injured reserve to fit both players on their active roster.
Sgarbossa is back up with the Capitals just two days after they sent him down to the Bears. The veteran forward did not play any games with Hershey during his short stint on their AHL roster. Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery previously swapped Sgarbossa for Hendrix Lapierre in his lineup for two games this season.
The 32-year-old centerman did not get on the scoresheet in either of those two games. Sgarbossa has nine points (1g, 8a) in seven games for Hershey.
Chychrun returns to active duty after missing five games with an upper-body injury. The 26-year-old blueliner shed his non-contact jersey at the team’s morning skate on Friday, and Carbery did not rule him out of the game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, although he ultimately did not play.
If Chychrun gets a jersey against the Blues, Alex Alexeyev will likely come back out of the lineup. Chychrun has four points (2g, 2a) in his first eight games for the Capitals.
Milano was injured in the Capitals’ 3-2 win over the Nashville Predators on Wednesday. Jakub Vrana replaced him in Washington’s lineup against Pittsburgh.
