Capitals to Host 50th Anniversary Trophy Showcase March 7-8, Coinciding  with “Rock the Red” Era Night presented by Verizon against Detroit | Washington  Capitals

The Washington Capitals are planning to give fans a special opportunity to see the 15 NHL Award trophies they’ve won in franchise history over a two day span in early March.

The trophies will be on display at the Harry Benson Gallery from 3 pm through 8 pm on March 7 at the Harry Benson Gallery and March 8 at MedStar Capitals Iceplex from 10:30 am through 1 pm. Both events are free and open to the public per the team. The Stanley Cup is not being advertised to be at the events.

The NHL hardware scheduled to be a part of the viewings include:

  • Art Ross Trophy (Alex Ovechkin in2008)
  • Bill Masterton Trophy (Jose Theodore in 2010)
  • Calder Memorial Trophy (Alex Ovechkin in 2006)
  • Conn Smythe Trophy (Alex Ovechkin in 2018)
  • Franke Selke Trophy (Doug Jarvis in 1984)
  • Hart Memorial Trophy (Alex Ovechkin in 2008, 2009, & 2013)
  • Jack Adams Trophy (Bryan Murray in 1984; Barry Trotz in 2016; and Bruce Boudreau in 2008)
  • James Norris Trophy (Rod Langway in 1983 and 1984)
  • King Clancy Memorial Trophy (Olie Kolzig in 2006)
  • Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy (Alex Ovechkin in 2008, 2009, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, & 2020)
  • Presidents’ Trophy (Washington Capitals in 2010, 2016, & 2017)
  • Prince of Wales Trophy (Washington Capitals in 1998 and 2018)
  • Ted Lindsay Award (Alex Ovechkin 2008, 2009, & 2010)
  • Georges Vezina Trophy (Jim Carey in 1996; Olie Kolzig in 2000; and Braden Holtby in 2016)
  • William Jennings Trophy (Braden Holtby/Philipp Grubauer in 2017 and Al Jensen/Pat Riggin in 1984)

March 7 at the Harry Benson Gallery

The NHL Award trophies will first be displayed at the Harry Benson Gallery both ahead of and during the Washington Capitals game against the Detroit Red Wings on March 7. The event is to help celebrate the Capitals’ “Rock the Red” 50th Anniversary Night.

Note: Admission to the Harry Benson Gallery is free but a ticket is needed to attend the Capitals vs. Red Wings game

March 8 at MedStar Capitals Iceplex

The NHL Award trophies will then travel over to the Capitals’ practice facility the next morning at 10:30 am. Per the Capitals, the team will hold a “special open practice” beginning at 11 am that includes face-painting, balloon artists, and giveaways.

Nicklas Backstrom, Mike Green, Karl Alzner, and Brent Johnson will conduct a short autograph session from 12 to 12:30 pm. The event concludes at 1 pm.
