Blake Moynes Opens Up About Life-Threatening Accident: ‘Everything Can Change in an Instant’ tram

Spreading awareness.

This week, Bachelor Nation star Blake Moynes took to Instagram to open up about a life-threatening accident he experienced in June.

He posted a video of himself kayaking on a body of water and started off by saying that he had contemplated not sharing this story, especially since he felt his mother would lose her mind.

As fans know, Blake had suffered a scary infection and needed surgery while on a trip to South Africa last year, which caused his mom a lot of worry.

However, he felt this was an important story to tell and wanted to raise awareness around his most recent accident. In his video, Blake reveals that he experienced a shallow water blackout while diving with sharks.

He explains how he was swimming in 100 feet of water on a recent diving trip and wanted a really good interaction with sharks on his last dive, leading him to accidentally neglect his personal safety.

His team had safety measurements in place and a maximum diving depth marker of 25 feet, which Blake surpassed without realizing it. He expressed, “I only realized my mistake when I saw the bottom of the ocean, which I had never seen before. Not diving. And I knew at that point that I was too deep.”

Blake tried swimming up to the top as quickly as possible, but he exerted too much energy and oxygen in doing so.

Once he was about 15 feet below the surface, he shared that he could see the sunlight piercing through but began to lose consciousness and oxygen. “All the oxygen left my lungs and at this point I blacked out,” Blake admits in the video. “I don’t remember those 15 seconds of my life.”

He goes on to say, “Once I came to the surface, I was face down in the water… Luckily Tanner and another friend of mine were there. They flipped me right onto my back so I didn’t suck any water into my lungs.” Blake was quickly taken to the boat for safety and thankfully ended up being okay.

When expressing why he wanted to tell this story, Blake states that shallow water blackouts are more common than people think. They occur even with professional divers, and Blake felt “this is something everyone should know before entering the ocean or any body of water.”

At the end of the video, Blake confesses that he now understands everything that led to the accident and how it could’ve gone differently. “All this to say is that everything can change in an instant,” he reflects. “Five to 10 seconds difference with this accident, and I’m not the one telling you this story.”

He signed off by giving safety tips and encouraging his followers that even though it was a scary lesson, he felt it was important and necessary to share.

We are so glad Blake is okay and hope for continued safe adventures in the future!
