Andy Cohen addressed a comment he made about a “Vanderpump Rules” star that landed him in hot water with fans.
In a December 2024 interview with Us Weekly, the Bravo host and producer admitted that viewers don’t always like what he says on his Sirius XM Show, “Andy Cohen Live.”
“There are things I say that the viewers disagree with,” Cohen told the outlet. “There was a moment early in ‘Vanderpump Rules’ where I said [on the radio], ‘Lala [Kent] is the voice of reason this season.’ People played that clip for months on end and were all over me.”
“Sometimes I mess up, but I think I have a good sense,” he added. “[Radio] is also a place I talk more often as a producer than I do anywhere else. It’s a great opportunity for me to give background and explain further my point of view.”
Andy Cohen Previously Rephrased What He Said About Lala
Kent was very outspoken throughout the 11th season of “Vanderpump Rules.” She butted heads with co-stars Katie Maloney and Ariana Madix and her behavior was off-putting to some fans.
In March 2024, Cohen spoke on SiriusXM’s “Andy Cohen Live” shortly after taping the “Vanderpump Rules” reunion. At the time, he teased, “Let me tell you about Lala. She has become the voice of reason on the show. She, I think has her best, I went to her before the reunion and I said, ‘This is your best season.’ Without question, her best season,” the Bravo host added on his radio show.
In April 2024, Cohen spoke again on his radio show to explain his comment about Kent and fellow “Vanderpump Rules” personality Brock Davies. “I said something very offhandedly on this broadcast about three weeks ago that has just been clogging up my Twitter timeline ever since and not in a positive way,” Cohen said to his co-host John Hill. “And that is that I believe that I again kind of offhandedly said that Lala and Brock are the voices of reason this season.”
“Well, people are doubting my sanity,” Cohen added. “They also just think I’m a horrible person for saying [that]. So let me just say again, I’m enjoying Lala and Brock this season. That’s all. Voices of reason is, I guess y’all got me there, because you know it’s a show in which there is maybe not a ton of reason. But again, I’ll just say it in a different way. I’m really enjoying Lala and Brock this season. I really am.”
Lala Kent Questioned Her Role in the End of ‘Vanderpump Rules’
After Cohen made his comment about Kent, viewers saw her deliver a wild season 11 finale spiel in which she targeted Madix. In the final moments of the finale episode, titled “Plot Twist,” Kent criticized Madix for refusing to film with her ex, Tom Sandoval, and accused her of acting like she was “Beyonce.”
The long-running series was put on “pause” by Bravo soon after, and in November 2024 it was confirmed that the show would be rebooted with an all-new cast for season 12.
In December 2024, Kent addressed fans during an Amazon livestream, where she admitted she knew her time on the show was done well before the official announcement. “I felt like I started mourning ‘Vanderpump Rules’ the moment I purged on that finale,” she said. “It just felt like there was nothing – it was broken. It was very broken.”
The “Give Them Lala” podcast host admitted that she wondered if her on-camera rant pushed things too far. “I do often wonder if I would’ve kept my mouth shut, like if a producer wouldn’t have stepped in and told me that I’m allowed to say the things that I said off-camera about filming, if the show would’ve been able to go on, or if I was just the final nail in the coffin,” she said. “I guess we’ll never know.”
