10 Reasons Why I Unapologetically Love 'Love Is Blind' liennhi

Eight seasons of Love Is Blind, and I’m just as hooked as I was when I tuned into the show for the first time in 2020. I know what you’re thinking — yes, I agree the quality has tanked quite a bit, and there are many cringe moments. But despite the downsides, I’m an unapologetic Love Is Blind fanatic! I’m talking, watching every season, following all the YouTube reaction shows, and staying up to date on all the tea being spilled outside the show. It’s one of those that’s so bad it’s good, guilty pleasure shows. But that’s not to say there aren’t aspects of the show that I truly resonate with and appreciate.

Love Is Blind has managed to stay relevant and has gained popularity to the extent that the franchise has branched out to eleven territories worldwide. Obviously, there must be something about the show that keeps viewers hooked. From unhinged contestants to tear-jerking love stories to messy love triangles and everything in between, Love Is Blind is pure reality TV gold. There are a plethora of aspects that make Love Is Blind the ideal reality show to tune into. Here’s a list of all the reasons why I’ve remained an OG fan for the past five years and why you should jump on the Love Is Blind bandwagon if you haven’t already!

10The Array of Fun Date Ideas

The Go-to Place for Date Inspo

One of the more overlooked aspects of the show is how creative the dates are — both inside and outside the pods. The pod dating concept by itself is quite out-of-the-box, but the Love Is Blind producers take it one step further, introducing aspects like gift-giving and brunch themes. More recently, they even included a re-imagined silent disco date that had Monica Danús and Joey Leveille shaking a leg on either side of the wall. Of course, the romantic getaway after the engagement should be on every couple’s bucket list with picturesque views, exotic locations, and interactive activities.

The dates leading up to the wedding are hands down my favorite. There’s something for everyone to get inspiration from. There are a handful of creative dates like pottery and flower charm making, active dates like ice skating and bowling, and even a couple of old-school dates like picnics and camping. One thing’s for sure: the Love Is Blind producers sure do know how to get couples in all their feels with the romantic dates they plan every season. So the next time you need to brainstorm first-date ideas, skip the Google search and tune into Love Is Blind!

9The Nail-Biting Face Reveals

Will It Be Cute, or Will It Be Cringe?

The face reveals on Love Is Blind will never not be entertaining and is definitely one of the more crucial points of the experiment. It’s a pivotal transitional moment from pods to real life as the walls are lifted, and the couples get to test the authenticity of their connections. The most entertaining part of the face reveals is that almost all contestants who are not immediately attracted to their partner’s physical attributes cannot hide their disappointment. It’s so painfully obvious and hilarious at the same time and honestly shows the more human side of reality TV.

Couples like Leo Braudy and Brittany WisniewskiJimmy Presnell and Chelsea BlackwellDeepti Vempati and Abhishek “Shake” Chatterjee were among the couples who had awkward face reveals. The first kiss during the face reveal is also an instant chemistry test that is very intriguing to watch. Of course, in complete contrast, the couples who have palpable chemistry and strong feelings have adorable face reveals. My heart still skips a beat when I think back to Lauren Speed-Hamilton and Cameron Hamilton’s face reveal from Love Is Blind Season 1.

8Insightful Conversations

Socio-Political Issues, Sexuality and Religion

The insightful conversations are an aspect that was not a part of Love Is Blind from the get-go. It was an eventuality that contestants picked up on gradually as each season progressed, learning from the mistakes of their predecessors. Each new season of the show brought to light new issues that caused couples to break off their engagements or reject their fiancé at the altar. This made the conversations increasingly fruitful and insightful as the seasons progressed.

From lines like “You’re the yin to my yang” to “What do you think of the Black Lives Matter movement,” let me just say the conversations on the show have gained a lot of perspective and substance. The more recent seasons of the show serve as an eye-opener to the things one must consider while discussing the possibility of marriage with a potential partner. In the 21st century, being on the same wavelength about where one stands on the LGBTQ+ community, socio-political issues, and gender roles become imperative when choosing a life partner.

7The Repulsive Red-Flag Men

They Make the Others Look Good

I know what you’re thinking: How can red-flag men be one of the reasons I love the show? Well, Love Is Blind is incomplete without its toxic boys. They make the show more infuriating yet entertaining and also make the reunion a thousand times more satisfying when the women call them out for their toxic traits. The red-flag men usually also have problematic pasts that come to light outside the show while the season is running, adding to the thrill of the whole Love Is Blind watch experience.

Don’t get me wrong — I’m thoroughly repulsed by these men. But I also believe giving them a platform does more good than harm since they act as poster boys for what not to look for when dating in the real world. Jimmy PresnellStephen RichardsonJeramey LutinskiCole Barnett, and Bartise Bowden are just a handful of red-flag men who gave us the most jaw-dropping moments from their respective seasons of Love Is Blind.

6The Weddings

Ladies, you can throw your Pinterest wedding boards away, since the Love Is Blind weddings are all the inspiration you need. With so little prep time, the Netflix show truly does deliver when it comes to wedding decor. They manage to capture each couple’s uniqueness and translate it into a thematic representation at their wedding, from the flowers to the cake and even the breathtaking aisles.

What I’ve always found fascinating is how the production manages to pull off such astoundingly aesthetic weddings in such a short span of time. Even the music is always on point, with there being instances where they even have a harpist at some of the weddings. I think of all the weddings, Taylor Krause and Garrett Josemans outdoor wedding from Love Is Blind Season 1 was definitely top tier. I also loved the weddings from Love Is Blind Season 1, which had a very 2000s rom-com feel to them, like Bride Wars and Made of Honor.

5All The Tea Spilled Outside The Show

The Internet Detectives Are the Real G’s

The true Love Is Blind tea is spilled outside the show! The moment the first batch of episodes drops, the internet detectives get to work digging up all the dirt on the contestants. In my opinion, the FBI needs to hire them since they are so quick and diligent with the investigation that all the rumors are backed with receipts and primary sources.

From then on, it’s a battleground: Reddit threads are out of control, the TikToks are going viral, and fans are having full-fledged battles on X (formerly Twitter) — it’s a wonderful time to be alive. Since the show is taped way in advance and the rumors are swirling in real-time when the episodes air, it adds an added layer of depth and intrigue when watching the episodes as the cast members lie through their teeth like Tyler Francis from Love Is Blind Season 7.

4That One Standout Couple

Everyone’s Rooting for Them!

While a majority of relationships formed on Love Is Blind are utter train wrecks, there’s always that one standout couple that viewers are rooting for from the get-go. They’re usually the first ones to get engaged, like Johnny McIntyre and Amy Cortés, Speed-Hamilton and her beau, or even a bit later into the season, like Taylor Haag and Daniel Hastings. These couples get the hopeless romantic in me giddy with excitement and sobbing unapologetically when they exchange their vows.

A common pattern I’ve noticed is that the successful couples that emerge from Love Is Blind almost always have the husband being a man written by women. The standout couples that I’ve rooted for season after season have never disappointed — well, except for Steven Smith and Sabrina Vittoria from Love Is Blind: UK, but we don’t talk about that (it’s too painful).

3All The Shade Being Thrown

Choke on an EpiPen-Core

I think savage one-liners are the best part of every reality show. They just hit the right spots. With Jessica Vestal leading the pack with her savage “choke on an EpiPen” line to Presnell on Love Is Blind Season 6. That one-liner is etched in my brain since Presnell did quite literally regret all his decisions and was on the precipice of ruining his relationship with Chelsea Blackwell.

There was also the priceless moment when Giannina Milady Gibelli told Damian Powers about how he'd never noticed that she didn’t return the compliment when he kept telling her that she was the best sex of his life — that one’s got to have stung deep. Trust Love Is Blind to always deliver with savage one-liners cause no one spits fire like a pissed-off person in love.

2The Messy Love Triangles

Marking One’s Territory Gets Vicious

I live for the love triangles on Love Is Blind. With everyone on the show dating each other at some point, this is an inevitable part of the Netflix reality show. Some love triangles reached pretty amicable conclusions, like Molly RoseDavid Bettenburg, and Lauren O’Brien from Love Is Blind Season 8. But the messier ones got incredibly messy and transcended outside the pod drama, like the one from Love Is Blind Season 2 with Shaina HurleyShayne Jansen and Natalie Lee and Laura DodsonLutinski and Sarah Ann from Love Is Blind Season 6.

Verbal spats about who’s the other’s number one and who’s being played are classic aspects of the show and are one of its most popular selling points. Love triangles are also imperative for discovering a contestant’s true personality much more rapidly and are one of the key factors that contribute to uncovering red flags.

1The Dramatic Reunion Episode

When All Hell Breaks Loose

It should be no surprise that the Love Is Blind reunions are by far my favorite part of the show. You could even say that I put myself through the whole season, regardless of how cringe or boring it may be so that I can reap the benefits of the reunion. Nobody is safe during the reunion episode, and everything is brought to light. The once-loving glances turn into chilling death glares. Essentially, the reunion episode is an amalgamation of all my favorite aspects of the show. The red-flag men are called out, love triangles are addressed, all the external information from the tabloids is brought to light, and the one standout couple celebrates their love.

It’s an entirely different matter that I’d much rather have anyone other than Nick and Vanessa Lachey host the reunion. But despite their lack of cross-questioning, the reunion is always entertaining. Shots are fired, lies are uncovered, and viewers are unapologetically basking in the glory of it all. While I recognize that Love Is Blind may not be as fresh and authentic as it was in its debut season, it will never stop being top-tier reality television. So you’d best believe I’ll be tuning into this wonderful Netflix guilty pleasure season after season.
