West Wilson is taking life as it comes.
After keeping his love life under wraps on the current season of Summer House, the reality star, 30, isn’t sure what dating will look like for him in the future. Explaining to PEOPLE that he struggled to open up about his romantic escapades after his tense split with costar Ciara Miller, Wilson says he doesn’t regret keeping to himself.
“I've tried [dating] and then had a couple of them become internet talking points, and I was just like, it's more exhausting than you'd think it is,” he explains, referring to a viral TikTok video earlier this year in which Wilson teased a possible relationship with influencer Brianna LaPaglia after revealing they “made out” that day.
“I am trying to just hide out," he continues. "I actually felt really seen when I went on Watch What Happens Live and they did [a poll asking], ‘Was West in the right for lying about his dating life to the rest of the house?’ I was just like, ‘I don't want to bring that in here and be a d---.’ And it was like 95% said, ‘Yes, he is doing the right thing.’ Sometimes [I] feel like I need to be more interesting and do more s--- in front of everyone, but that was nice to know that being chill can be understood by everyone else.”
While his friendship with Miller is improving, Wilson says it’s been a “slow, slow” journey. Looking ahead to this summer, he admits he still feels hesitant about bringing other relationships into the house.
“I think we're at the point now where we could, I don't know, probably do it,” he contemplates. “Doing that in front of an ex, I feel like it's hard for it to not be distasteful. I don't know. That'll be a game-time decision, probably.”
“I need to be better, if we share a house again, to just enjoy my space without worrying about things outside of my control,” the sports journalist adds of his nerves going into last season with Miller. “I don't know, I was shy the first few weekends, and so [I’m] back on the horse. But it was all probably in my head, so we're good.”
After dating throughout the summer of 2023, Miller and Wilson called it quits in December of that year. During the season 8 Summer House reunion in June 2024, the nurse claimed that despite not officially labeling themselves as boyfriend and girlfriend, Wilson "was playing a game" by acting like they were.
“I love a funny guy. We’ve all seen that,” Ciara said of what attracted her to West after revealing they slept together when cameras went down. “I don’t know, I got got, I think, a little bit.”
“Ciara might regret like, our relationship and the however-month journey we had but, like, I don’t,” Wilson later said. “I apologize for, obviously, hurting you and I don’t want you to … you said you ‘got got’ earlier tonight and I don't love hearing that. But my feelings were genuine, I think I just expressed myself maybe too late after it was too late to, you know, figure things out. But I'm sorry overall for hurting you and it’s obviously still painful. I mean, it's painful for me too. It's my fault, so…”
