Washington Capitals News: Team hosts Rising Stars charity event and a golf tournament trucc

   

Capitals continue to stay active in the community ahead of their 50th anniversary

The Washington Capitals won't be in action for a while but action has already happened in Arlington in the form of players returning back home, former Caps taking part in it, and even community activities.

On Sunday at MedStar Capitals Iceplex the Caps hosted a Rising Stars Academy Clinic in a co-ed type program for kids between the ages of 9-17 which featured more than 100 participants. The foucs was on physcial and mental strength and the Rising Stars Academy is offered at no cost to travel players and high school level athletes.

Tennesee State University ice hockey head coach Daunte' Abercrombie and Gonzaga College High School Ice Hockey coach Bryan King served as the lead instructors. Also featured was former professional hockey player and Hockey Hall of Fame legend Angela James and former Adrian Colege NCAA D3 defenseman and 2024 Caps Development Camp participant Ayo Adeniye also took part in the on ice instruction.

Per the press release, Sunday's clinic featured on and off ice sessions. The off ice sessions focused on individual strength and fitness, teamwork stretegey, and mental health. Additionally skating coach Wendy Marco took part in the on ice instruction and an off ice session with Caps strength and conditioning coach Zach Leddon.

In other news the Caps took part in Nick Jensen's Fore for the Future: A Fight to End Duchenne to benefit parent project Maryland.

In Hershey Bears news the Calder Cup has made it's way to Clay Stevenson and family so today is his day with it.

In other news Caps defenseman Martin Fehervary was among the players slected to play for Slovakia in the 2026 Olympic qualifier in Bratislava from August 29 through September 1. Per Tom Gulitti of NHL.com, Slovakia will host Austria, Hungary and Kazakhstan in a round robin tournament with the winner punching their ticket to the 2026 Olympics.

There was also some positive words about the Caps prospect pool on The Daily Face off per Steven Ellis. He writes this about their biggest strengths:
