Girls Hockey Day

Registration is open for the second annual Washington Capitals DMV Girls Try Hockey for Free Day, scheduled for Sept. 14 at 18 rinks across Virginia and Maryland.

The DMV Girls Try Hockey for Free Day is a joint effort between the Washington Capitals, Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation, the Potomac Valley Amateur Hockey Association and various youth hockey organizations to introduce girls ages 4-9 to hockey at no cost. Required equipment is loaned to participants through the local youth hockey organization.

The Loudoun Knights -- based at Ion International Training Center in Leesburg -- are among the participating clubs in Virginia.

The inaugural event in 2023 allowed more than 300 girls to try hockey for the first time, with more than 30 percent of registered participants continuing to play the sport.
