Love is Blind has now been on our screens for five years. It’s the best dating show, in my opinion, and that’s because it asks couples to actually make a proper commitment to each other.
The weddings on Love is Blind are real so if couples say ‘I do’ they are entering in to a legally binding marriage - and that’s a huge thing to enter into just a few weeks after meeting. Whatsmore, contestants have just ten days to find their future husband or wife in the pods, where they date multiple people but are only able to hear them speak but not see them. After couples get engaged, they have a further 28 days to decide if they are going to get married before their wedding day arrives, show producer Chris Coelen has previously revealed.
That really isn’t long to decide if a person is the one you are meant to spend the rest of your life with or not. But, nine couples are still together after marrying across all eight seasons. But, one of those couples almost didn’t make it.
Amy Cortés and Johnny McIntyre met and married within a matter of weeks on Love is Blind season 6. In fact, they are the only couple who said yes to each other during that season, which was filmed in 2023 and aired in February 2024.
The pair have now been married for around two years and moved in together shortly after appearing on the show and saying ‘I do’ - with Johnny even paying to break his new wife’s lease so that they could find a home together.

However, during a podcast appearance, the now loved-up pair have admitted they almost didn’t get engaged. Speaking to fellow season 6 Love is Blind alum Amber Desiree “AD” Smith on her What’s the Reality podcast, Amy said: “I would always say that Johnny was here for a good time, not a long time. Johnny was the last one that I was like ‘this is the last man I have open’
“ I remember telling producers - cause I had a breakdown because I was like ‘I don’t know what’s going on. There’s so many feelings.’ - if Johnny doesn’t get deep with me tomorrow I’m not initiating it cause I’m tired of initiating conversations. If he doesn’t initiate a conversation where I get to know him, more of who he is at his core, then I’m out. . . and the next day he did. So it worked out perfect.”.
Amy also said she questioned if the producers had told Johnny what she had said, but he inisted they hadn’t. This is true as Coelen as also previously said that the producers can’t interfere in contestant’s relationships in any way. They can help them plan certain things, such as when contestants want to give their date a gift, but they don’t control the outcome in any way.
Later in the interview, Amy revealed she also wasn’t supposed to take part in the season at all as she had a trip planned for the filming period - but when this trip fell through at last minute she found she was available. The rest, they say, is history.
If Amy and Johnny hadn’t connected on the show then season six would have been the first season in the show’s five year history where nobody actually got married. Coelen has also confirmed previously that couples have to make their final decision at the wedding - and there’s no obligation for anybody to say ‘I do’.
Co-star Amber got engaged to Clay Gravesande during season 6, but the pair broke up after he said ‘I don’t’ at the altar. She had said ‘yes’ to him, but when it came to his turn he said he wasn’t “fully ready” for marriage and that he had concerns about fidelity and commitment due to his upbringing where his parents separated. He wanted to go back to dating after their wedding day, but she refused.
Amber later appeared on another Netflix dating show, Perfect Match, where she met her husband-to-be Ollie Sutherland - who coincidentally took part in series one of the UK version of Love is Blind. The pair are also now expecting a baby.
