Amy Dowden has shared a hopeful family update with fans as she told how having children isn't 'possible yet' after facing cancer.

The Strictly Come Dancing star underwent treatment for breast cancer and shared her diagnosis publicly after being given the news in May 2023.

Amy told how she'd found a lump in April of the same year, the day before her honeymoon with fellow dancer Ben Jones, and had to undergo a single mastectomy before having chemotherapy treatment.

In February 2024, the dancer announced she had "no evidence of disease" following tests and later made a triumphant return to the hit dance show for its 20th-anniversary series last year.

Following her diagnosis, Amy is often given reminders of what she battled through, and how far she has come, and shared them with her loyal online following.

Over the weekend, the 34-year-old was reminded of a video from two years ago, in which she could be seen going through IVF treatment.

She underwent egg retrieval and embryo freezing before starting chemotherapy to give her and Ben the chance to try for a baby in future.

Alongside the post, Amy shared the struggle of what she had to do, as well as hope for her and her husband Ben to have their own family in the future.

She wrote: "Exactly two years ago today. My IVF treatment to give us the chance of hopefully, one day, to have the honour to become parents. I couldn't inject myself, I used to have to get others to do it for me.

"But here I see tears in my eyes, the fear of chemo about to begin and everything ahead of me! I was just all round terrified! Oh, if only I knew two years later where I'd be!"

Amy added: "To those needing it, be kind to yourself, don't compare yourself to tohers! I told myself daily 'this too shall pass'. I know it's not possible yet, but hopefully one day we can use thos elittle mini Amy and Bens waiting for us."

Later, the dancer returned to social media as she headed back from enjoying a sun-soaked trip with Ben and their friends. "Well what a few days it's been!" she told her ofllowers alongside a selfie as she travlled in a car.

"Gone far too fast! Memories made and forvever grateful! Now for the nest project before the exciting Strictly season begins. These next few weeks are going to be interesting to say the least [crying laughing emojis], tough and hopefully a very rewarding challenge."

Amy previously discussed her plans to try for a family on the What If? podcast with Lorraine Kelly and her daughter Rosie.

"We would love a family and we've got embryos, because, obviously, I've got a hormone-fed cancer so I was put into menopause, which happened the day I started chemo," she said. So in a couple of years, when they feel it's safe, hopefully, we'll have the opportunity."
