Strictly Come Dancing fans were quick to hit back at critics questioning "who" as the first celebrity contestant for the 2025 series was announced.

It won't be long before we're swapping out the long summer nights for a cosy night in front of the telly as the glitz and the glamour of Strictly Comes Dancing returns.

The BBC ballroom is returning for yet another series this autumn, and as always the broadcaster has been tight-lipped about which famous faces will be taking on the hit show.

Dianne Buswell, Katya Jones, Jowita Przystal, Johannes Radebe, Michelle Tsiakkas, Aljaž Škorjanec, Kai Widdrington, Nancy Xu, Carlos Gu, Lauren Oakley and Vito Coppola will also take to the ballroom once more.

While it's expected that the celebrity contestants will be announced over the course of the week, the first celebrity contestant for Strictly 2025 has been confirmed. Gladiator Nitro, Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, will be switching out the battleground for the ballroom.

The multi gold medal-winning Team GB sprinter has already appeared on Strictly once before as he took part in last year's Christmas special with Nancy Xu.

Harry shared: "After the Christmas Special, it was so nice I just had to do it twice! I’m so excited to be part of the Strictly family this series and I’m ready to give it all I’ve got. I’ll be bringing tons of energy to light up the dance floor. Let’s hope I’m as quick picking up the routines as I am on the track."

After the news was shared on Strictly's Instagram account, fans were quick to react to the exciting news. However, as some left comments asking "who" Harry is, others jumped to his defence.

@aalexa_christina wrote: "The annual 'who' brigade are already out in full force. Most of us don't know every cast member because BBC select a variety of people to draw in the wide demographic that watches the show and hopefully bring in new audiences.

"We Google the names we don't know and look forward to getting to know them over the series. Usually the person I'm cheering for by the end is someone I've not heard of at the start".

@craftyupnorth replied: "Yeh I've always grown to love the ones I don't know. At 1st I think I don't know them so I wont bother watching but I'm a fan of the series & you grow to love whoevers in it".

To a commenter that said they had "never heard of him", @rachluds quipped: "So what just sit back and enjoy it !!"
