The pro dancer got candid about how her DWTS legacy has been remembered.
While we’re in the thick of Dancing With the Stars season 33, one of the show’s past pro dancers, Sharna Burgess, is defending her legacy on the reality competition series. During a recent appearance on the Between Us Moms podcast on October 9, Sharna seemingly responded to comments that DWTS host and former pro dancer, Julianne Hough, made about her season 27 win with radio personality Bobby Bones in 2018.
“It also sucks that of all the incredible seasons I had, I’m remembered as the win that no one wanted,” Sharna said. “I think even Julianne was recently in an interview saying, ‘The win that should never have happened out of all 33 seasons was Bobby Bones.’ It just sucks. It does hurt a little bit because I wish I could have left a good legacy, like, a beautiful legacy on Dancing With the Stars after my time. But it’s okay.”
ICYMI, Julianne was one of Andy Cohen’s guests on Watch What Happens Live! back in August, when she was asked if there was a DWTS winner she “strongly disagreed” with. Country singer Mickey Guyton—who was the other guest on the Bravo talk show at the time—answered, “I just said Bobby Bones.”
Julianne added, “I actually agree with you. And I think it’s because of the fan base. It’s all about fan base on that show. He was not the best dancer.”
Sharna, who competed on 14 seasons of DWTS, shared she has a history with the competition series, revealing that she wasn’t called back for season 32 once she took the previous season off to cater to her newborn son, Zane, at the time.
“Because it was such a shock, because I wasn’t expecting it, it was tough. It’s not the first time. My last five years on the show have been rocky — not because of the show,” she explained to co-host and husband Brian Austin Green on their podcast, Old-Ish.
“I love the show deeply, but we had a new executive producer come in, I think five years ago now. I had just won with Bobby Bones and he decided to not bring me back,” Sharna continued. “There’s a lot of speculation as to why.”
