Rasmus Sandin isn’t ready to go on summer vacation just yet.

According to Swedish reporter Henrik Sjoberg, Sandin is on his way to Stockholm to join his fellow Swedish countrymen at the 2025 World Championship. He’ll be joined by Vegas Golden Knights forward William Karlsson as the first late-arriving reinforcements for Sweden at the tournament.

Sandin played in all 92 regular season and playoff games for the Capitals this year, posting 30 points (4g, 26a) and averaging 19:11 of ice time per game during the regular season. He played the majority of the year on the team’s top pairing with John Carlson, posting great numbers at five-on-five. With the two on the ice, the Caps saw 53.8 percent of expected goals and 53.1 percent of high-danger chances.

“I felt like I took big steps playing without the puck,” Sandin said at Breakdown Day on Saturday. “Just playing in a smarter way, using my stick more, using my feet more. Happy with that part. I feel like I still have some ways to go with the puck and also without the puck, so there’s still ways to improve, which I’m happy with. Something to work on this summer and get back stronger for next year.”

The 25-year-old defender previously played for Sweden at a World Championship, skating in seven games for his country in 2023. He suffered an injury midway through the tournament, missing the team’s eventual elimination game in the quarterfinals against Latvia.

“Rasmus is skilled both defensively and offensively,” former Caps defenseman Erik Gustafsson told Aftonbladet. “He’s a good guy too, so it’s great that he’s coming.”

Sweden currently sits at the top of Group A, winning all six of their games at this year’s tournament. They have outscored their opposition 25-3, with forward Elias Lindholm tied for the tournament lead in scoring at 10 points (6g, 4a).

Tre Kronor will play their final group game against Canada on Tuesday before the quarterfinals. Sweden won bronze last year and last won gold in 2018.
