Speaking to Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet of her 80th birthday bash on May 23, LaBelle revealed that she is working on new music — and she wouldn't be opposed to collaborating with her new bestie.

"Why not? She's like one of my new best friends and to know that she was into Patti LaBelle! She's like my new buddy," LaBelle told the outlet.

The "If Only You Knew" singer also opened up about the new music she has in the works.

"I haven't had an album out in 20 years and so I'm working on that now," she said. "It should be out at the end of year."

"It’s called 8065," she added. “I’m 80 years young and 65 years in show business.”

In November, Labelle and Cardi, 31, teamed up to combine their two dessert products, Cardi's Whipshots alcoholic whipped cream and Patti’s Good Life pies, for a social campaign.

At the time, LaBelle told PEOPLE that though they hadn't met prior to the partnership, she felt like they were “supposed to be together” for a long time.

“I've been her mother in my mind for a long time because she's just all that and a bag of chips. And I'm all that and a bag of chips,” LaBelle told PEOPLE of Cardi.

The "Up" rapper agreed that their meeting was a long time coming — but she was nervous to meet her.

“I feel like I’m not worthy, I just feel so shook!” Cardi said, while LaBelle shook her head next to her. “I’m super starstruck. I’m on my best behavior.”

She continued, "Miss Patti, I will be doing splits on these tables.”

LaBelle also spoke with PEOPLE at her star-studded 80th birthday bash, which was attended by friends like Whoopi Goldberg, Gayle King, Gladys Knight, Sherri Shepherd and Debbie Allen.

"Everybody in the industry that I know were here, and I had a lot of tears," she told PEOPLE, "but I had to keep on my lashes, so I couldn't cry too much."

LaBelle — who got her start as a member of Patti LaBelle and The Bluebelles — also shared the lessons she's learning since her start in the industry.

"I've learned to be kind when people are not kind. You always take the high road, and I've known that for a long time, but as I mature in age, I know how to do it even better now, how to take the high road and meet all of my bad feelings and just pray for those who make me feel less," she explained.
