The National Hockey League and the National Hockey League Players’ Association announced today that the Team Payroll Range established for the 2024-25 League Year, pursuant to the Collective Bargaining Agreement, provides for a Lower Limit of $65.0 million, a Midpoint of $76.5 million and an Upper Limit of $88.0 million.
The salary cap was initially projected to increase to $87.7 million.
The Washington Capitals will have $16,185,000 left in salary cap space this offseason with eight forwards, seven defensemen, and two goaltenders under contract for next season with Nicklas Backstrom expected to remain on long-term injured reserve due to a hip injury.
Left-wing Beck Malenstyn (salary arbitration eligible) and center Connor McMichael can become restricted free agents on July 1. Right-wing Nicolas Aube Kubel and left-wing Max Pacioretty, whose games played bonus will cost Washington an additional $2 million against the salary cap next season (counted in projection above), can become unrestricted free agents on the same day.
