Michelle Hardwick opens up on Charity and Vanessa romance

Emmerdale star Michelle Hardwick let slip a huge spoiler as she confirmed Charity Dingle and Vanessa Woodfield's future.

Fans of the ITV soap will know that the pair have a complex romantic history after Vanessa, played by Michelle, became a great support to Charity (Emma Atkins) during a traumatic rape trial in 2018.

The couple got engaged in 2019, but things became complicated when Charity cheated on Vanessa with Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) - her current husband.

A heartbroken Vanessa, who was battling bowel cancer at the time, decided to leave the country, despite Charity's attempts to get her to stay.

Recent episodes have seen Charity embroiled in more drama as she agreed to be a surrogate for her granddaughter Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill), after she had a hysterectomy back in June.

Despite Mack's reservations about his wife carrying Sarah's baby, Vanessa has been a pillar of support for her ex-partner Charity.

However, the plot thickened this week when Charity began bleeding after a fall in the woods, leaving her distraught.

During Thursday's (August 7) episode, Charity sought solace at the pub following a heated argument with Mack, before Vanessa tried to sober her up.

At Vanessa's house, Charity opened up about her struggles with the surrogacy, before leaning in to kiss her ex-fiancé.

Vanessa star Michelle Hardwick appeared on ITV's Loose Women on Friday (August 8) to discuss the tense storyline.

After a clip of the kiss was played, host Jane Moore asked: "So, the burning question on everyone's lips, particularly after seeing that clip, are Vanessa and Charity getting back together again?"

Michelle quipped in response: "Honestly if I had a pound for every direct message I had on Instagram asking that question."

She added: "I have got to say, you know I don't want to lead anyone into any hope, any false hope, but as far as I'm aware, they're not getting back together.

"As far as I know at the moment, no one's told me or Emma, I don't think. What happened last night is to do with the story at the moment and all is not as it seems. Things will become a bit clearer next week."

It seems as though Vanity fans' excitement will be short-lived, as Charity managed to rekindle things with an oblivious Mack during tonight's episode.

Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 at 7.30pm and is available to stream from 7am on ITVX
