Dancing With the Stars” pros Maks Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd have been monitoring the wildfires in California. As of January 8, the family was safe from immediate danger, but was actively keeping an eye on things.

“My heart goes out to all who are currently losing their properties to fire in Los Angeles,” Chmerkovskiy posted on his Instagram Stories in January 7.

“It is never easy to watch tragedies unfold on TV, but this is close to where we live, where we frequently visit, and our friends are the ones evacuating or losing everything. I can’t believe this is how we’re starting the yea,” he added.

The next day, Chmerkovskiy shared some emotional videos while walking near his California home.

Also on his Instagram Stories, Chmerkovskiy shared some views of the billowing smoke near his home.

“What a morning. What a night LA had,” Chmerkovskiy said while looking into the camera lens. “My heart to everybody who lost their house, their everything. I mean, it’s upsetting and it’s awful. So bad. We know people who lost everything. Lost their house, had to run, left the car. I mean, it’s just nuts,” he continued.

“This is the sky above us. Fine,” Chmerkovskiy continued, pointing to the blue skies overhead. He then panned the camera to the surrounding areas to show his Instagram followers the smoke over different areas nearby.

“It’s awful,” he reiterated. “We know every single place that has been burnt down, up and down PCH,” he added.

Chmerkovskiy said that he took a ride over to Malibu a few days prior to survey the area where they used to live and it was “still all charred and burned.”

He went on to thank the firefighters who have been working tirelessly as well as people who have volunteered to help.

Many Fans Are Worried for ‘Dancing With the Stars’ Cast Members as Some Live in the Path of the Fires

Many DWTS cast members live in California, and some have posted about the fires. On January 7, for example, judge Derek Hough said that he Hayley Erbert were packed up and ready to evacuate if need be.

Fans of “Dancing With the Stars” took to Reddit to react to the fires and many expressed being concerned for the cast of the show.

“Sadly I heard this morning it wasn’t contained and they were having high winds which was accelerating it. It’s hard to know until it’s contained when it will end. Hoping everyone stays safe,” one person wrote.

“Jenn and Sasha posted on their stories about the fires but nothing about evacuating, so Sasha must not live close by. Maks said it is close to where they live and he knows friends who are being affected. Sharna also said she is safe,” someone else said, adding, “I’m sure the pros on tour are thinking about their homes and friends back home. I’m on the other side of the country, but the coverage has me on the verge of tears, it’s so devastating.”
