Madison chose to prioritise her connection with Alex
Madison also had a connection with Alex, a 29-year-old estate agent, with the pair making their relationship 'official' as boyfriend and girlfriend in episode four, when he told her, "I love your voice. I love how thoughtful you are. Literally, like, feeling all the feels."
Explaining her decision to choose someone else to Mason, Madison said in the pods, "I was able to get there faster with someone else." Mason then tried to take back some of the things he had said to her, insisting he didn't want to commit: "I feel like I added some unnecessary pressure when I told you that I, like, was committing to you. When I said it, I didn’t know if it felt right. It was an unfair thing to do to both the people I was seeing."
Mason then tried to go back on his word, and make things work with Meg
When Meg realised Alex and Madison had 'closed off' their relationship during the pods, she realised it meant Mason had been left single. She told him it had made her feel "super bummed out because it definitely made me feel some type of way" about him, with Mason adding, "I clearly said it to the wrong person."
Despite Mason insisting he knew it hadn't felt right when he committed to Madison, the damage had already been done, and Meg and he both left the experiment single.
Madison and Alex then split before leaving the pods
Alex and Madison then fell out over Mason's actions, because Alex was defending him as a 'friend' for trying to start things up again with Meg. "Honestly, he was really devastated," Alex told Madison. "He was telling me he told you something and, like, you had talked to his other connection and it screwed him over." The pair agreed it would be too much of a jump to get engaged.
What has Mason said about the situation?
Speaking about what happened in the pods, Mason told Vulture he genuinely was in a position where he liked two girls at the same time - something he's never experienced before - and also did feel pressure from Madison to commit to her solely.
"Out of context, I don’t expect people to know what I went through," he told Vulture. "I know I said I didn’t feel pressure — I did. I definitely didn’t thrive in that environment. The cameras played a role in it. But the part that really had me suffering was I’ve never been into two girls or dated two girls at the same time.
"If someone’s gonna push me a certain way, I’ll break and just give in and give the response I think they want. Seeing two girls at the same time and really having feelings for them kind of messed me up. I knew it was a big thing to say at the moment, and I just said it, and then I just went with it, and then I felt stuck. That wasn’t fair to Meg, obviously."
Standing his ground, eh?
