As the British Soap Awards returned for another year, the biggest names in soap world gathered in the hopes of taking home one of the awards.

It wasn't a good night for the northern soaps as it was a landslide win for EastEnders who took home the majority of awards, including the biggest one of all - Best Soap.

Emmerdale walked away with one award as Amelia Flanagan won Best Young Performer for her role as April Windsor and her special episode that aired earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Coronation Street actor David Nielson was given the Outstanding Achievement award as he's played the role of Roy Cropper since 1995.

During Tuesday's (3rd June) instalment of Loose Women, Ruth Langsford was head of the panel as she was joined in the studio by Coleen Nolan, Nadia Sawalha and Denise Welch.

As Ruth kickstarted the conversation about the soap awards, she directed the conversation towards Denise who was in charge of presenting an award on the night.

She then shared how she was surprised with the CHEE award - the first of its kind. It was given to her as she's the first actress who has appeared on all of the major soaps.

A picture of her trophy was then shown as she explained: "The welly is obviously Emmerdale, the pub the Duck and the Pond is Hollyoaks, that's Pat Butcher's earring from EastEnders and that's the Corrie brick."

Reflecting on her award, she said: "I got a lovely response and I was very chuffed with my CHEE. I was thrilled to go because I haven't been, I don't think since I was pregnant with Louis. It's that long ago, and as I looked down I could see all of my old pals.."

Over the years, Denise played Natalie Barnes in Coronation Street from 1997 to 2000, and Trish Minniver in Hollyoaks from 2021 to 2022. She also had a recurring role as Alison Slater in EastEnders.

Not only that, but Denise also appeared as Steph Haydock in the original Waterloo Road.

While the ceremony took place on Saturday 31st May, viewers can watch it at home on Thursday 5th June at 8pm on ITV1 and it'll also be available to stream on ITVX.

Loose Women airs on weekdays from 12:30pm on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX.
