Washington Capitals goaltender Logan Thompson had one of his worst outings of the season, giving up three goals to the Carolina Hurricanes on 12 first-period shots.
When the second period began, Charlie Lindgren was manning the crease, signaling what appeared to be Spencer Carbery’s first pull of the season for performance.
Minutes later, however, Capitals PR announced that Thompson was doubtful to return due to an upper-body injury. He was not sitting along the corner boards near the Capitals’ tunnel where the backup usually sits at Carolina’s Lenovo Center.
Thompson did not suffer any apparent injury during the game’s first 20 minutes, though he did take a puck to the mask off a shot from Hurricanes defenseman Sean Walker. The shot, which hit the temple area of his mask, caused Thompson’s back strap to detach and his bucket to fall to the ice.
Later in the period, Taylor Hall collided with Thompson while skating behind him through the crease, but Logan seemed no worse for wear.
Since signing a six-year extension on January 27, Thompson has lost 6 of his 15 appearances, posting a 3.05 goals-against average and a .888 save percentage.
