'Do you know, couples where there has been some significant issue or a significant form of betrayal and has gone through therapy, there is a 75 per cent likelihood that not only do they come out of the other end together but they're stronger.
'And that is government institute research.'
Paul joined co-star Charlene Douglas at the star studded Married At First Sight UK premiere on Tuesday evening in Leicester Square.
The relationship experts explained how they pair up the couples, who marry after meeting each other for the first time at the altar, and insist it is ultimately down to the contestants to work at their new connections.
Paul said: 'The process is definitely long. But the key is to try and figure out who they are and what their desires are, what they value, what their interests are, we try to look at attachment style as well. And you take these and that becomes the basis for the marriage.'
Charlene added: 'I sprinkle the sex and intimacy side of things.
'We look at compatibility, how they talk about sex, their sexual history etc. It is never a case of putting them together and we just want someone who can just have sex all day.
'We want someone who can talk about sex and feel comfortable talking about sex as well. We want everyone to be a success story as well. Yes, we do the work, and it is a team effort but really, they do the work in terms of when they meet each other there needs to be a spark at least.'

Last year's E4 series saw betrayals, feuds, and even a physical altercation, which led to former contestant Luke Worley's axing.
And Charlene has teased viewers can expect the same level of drama when the show returns next week.
The sex expert admits she was even shocked during filming as certain scandals unraveled.
She said: 'It wouldn't be Married At First Sight without the drama. We represent real relationships so do you know any relationship out there that there isn't any drama? No.
'For us it is always quite surprising because we go along thinking this is really smooth, this is really nice and then you're looking at them during a dinner party and they're not even talking for most of the dinner and you're like what's going on? Then the honesty box comes out and we get the real deal.'
Paul and Charlene are often at the forefront of the drama, witnessing behind the scenes action as well as guiding the couples through their difficulties.
The intensity of filming impacts the experts, with Charlene saying she feels 'jet lagged' following emotional scenes while Paul needs a spa day to recuperate.
Paul said: 'I believe on average it takes us a full day to recover.
'It's the excursion mentally and what we're putting out because we're not just helping the couple but we're also thinking about you at home.
'So, how can we deliver information that's going to help that couple but also help you at home and that takes a lot of energy. I enjoy a spa day to relax. I like a deep tissue massage.'
