The Washington Capitals will be well-represented at the World Junior Summer Showcase kicking off this week, as Lynden Lakovic is the latest prospect to get an invite.
Per The Athletic's Scott Wheeler, Lakovic earned a late invite to the tournament for Team Canada, who will face off against Team USA, Team Sweden and Team Finland.
Lakovic was the Capitals' first-round pick this year, going 27th overall following a pivotal year of growth with the WHL's Moose Jaw Warriors, where he had 58 points in 47 games while serving as the captain. The 6-foot-4 winger is known for his size and wicked shot, but is also a strong playmaker.
Also representing Washington will be Team USA defenseman Cole Hutson and goaltender Nicholas Kempf. Both attended Capitals development camp in early July.
Hutson is coming off a strong freshman year with Boston University, where he put up 48 points in 39 games with the Terriers while helping them to the NCAA final. Kempf had a year of ups and downs in his first go-around with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, going 2-10-1 with a .895 save percentage.
The showcase will be held from July 25 to Aug. 2 at Riddler Arena in Minneapolis and is the first step toward making it to the 2026 IIHF World Junior Championships.
