Getting a DUI is humiliating. Getting a DUI and then immediately having to film Real Housewives of Potomac? That’s a whole different beast, but in Season 9, Karen Huger put on a brave face and confronted her mistake.
The RHOP Season 9 premiere is set to kick off this weekend, and a sneak peak teased that they aren’t shying away from talking about Karen’s legal troubles. However, Karen recently shared in an interview that she felt a sense of “gratitude” after the crash. Leave it to the Grande Dame to put this kind of twist on a DUI.
Karen Huger is handling her DUI with class
Filming for Season 9 of RHOP kicked off about a month after Karen’s DUI. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Karen opened up about how it felt going back into filming with the legal trouble haunting her.
“First of all, I came from a place of gratitude,” Karen claimed. “I was glad that no one was hurt. No one else was hurt. No one else was involved.”
She continued, “I was grateful to be alive, and I’m still in that place of gratitude. That’s how I carry it.”
When the show started filming, Karen’s RHOP castmates had some strong opinions about her run-in with the law. According to the Grande Dame, that didn’t surprise her. She knew what she was getting herself into. After all, she’s been doing this for almost a decade at this point.
She explained, “The questioning? That’s normal. That’s human behavior, especially for RHOP. I expect nothing less.”
Like a psychology major in their second semester of college, Karen continued to explain how “human behavior” played a significant role in the upcoming season.
“I think human behavior really shows itself this season on RHOP, and I think the viewers will appreciate it,” Karen added.
After the DUI, Karen said that she was hoping for her castmates to rally around her. Unfortunately, she claimed most of them didn’t. She said only a “few” came to support her. Surprisingly, one of them was Gizelle Bryant, who Karen said she felt very “impressed” with by the end of Season 9.
As far as the castmates that didn’t support her? Well, we might have to have another press conference (with no press) to get to the bottom of that one.
Karen teased, “You might see another [press conference] this season.”
