Jake Paul promised a $500,000 bonus to Mike Perry if he makes it to the seventh round
Mike Perry will take part in the biggest fight of his career this weekend, as he emerges for Jake Paul's scheduled fight in the ring.
Perry is another former MMA fighter who will now step into the ring following Mike Tyson's injury. However, the change of opponent has dealt a blow to the attractiveness of the show, and his low profile will also mean he won't be in contention for a juicy purse.
Since leaving the UFC in 2021, Perry maintains an undefeated record in the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC), which served to bring him to Paul's attention as an emerging opponent, but nothing more.
What will Jake Paul and Mike Perry's purses be this Saturday?
In fact, Perry has claimed that the salary for his stellar boxing debut is roughly equivalent to the same amount he earns for fighting at BKFC. According to talkSPORT, the Florida native was paid $600,000 for his most recent win on the circuit against Thiago Alves back in April.
Although there is a caveat, as in the event of good PPV sales through DAZN, which will be in charge of the show, he could receive an additional in his purse.
"I hope the PPV is successful and that people buy the show because DAZN can be a little expensive at times. But we're working for that money, so buy the event and I'll give you the fight you want to see, I'll do it anyway," Perry explained.
In Paul's case, as the organizer of the event, he will receive a considerably larger purse. It is estimated that in his previous fight, where he defeated Ryan Bourland, he pocketed between $5 million and $7 million dollars and this Saturday the earnings are expected to be higher.
Interestingly, Perry could have been included on the bill originally, but to star in Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.'s return to the ring. However, he turned down the offer against the former WBC middleweight champion, arguing that the purse did not match the bill that 'Hijo de la leyeda' has.
"There were some things on the table with that, and the pay wasn't incredible, especially considering the opponent," he stated in an interview with The MMA Hour.
Therefore, in order for him to have agreed to fight Jake Paul, he must have received a sizable offer. In addition, another source of income for Perry is that Paul offered him a bet: 'The Problem Child' offered an additional $500,000 prize to Perry if he makes it to the seventh round of their fight on Saturday, in a scheduled eight-round bout.
"Hey, if you make it to the seventh round, I'll give you $500,000," Jake Paul responded when Perry claimed he would knock out in this very round.
For his part, Paul has won nine of his 10 professional fights, with six knockouts, so a loss would be considered an embarrassment.
