The Chase host Bradley Walsh was stunned after a player seemed to admit to a surprising hobby, before clarifying to the shocked host and fans at home.
During Monday’s visit (January 13) to the ITV studios, beloved The Chase host Bradley Walsh welcomed four new quizzers onto the show looking to put their general knowledge to the test.
As fans tuned in for the primetime show, the former Coronation Street star introduced contestants Rob, Julie, Marco and Evie onto the programme where they battled it out to take home the all-important cash prize.
But it was player Evie, an optical assistant from Brighouse, England, who caught both the host's and fans' attention when she was asked what she does for fun.
She replied that she grew carnivorous plants. However, her pronunciation of the word “carnivorous” sounded startlingly similar to that of cannabis. Brad immediately gasped, “Say it again, you’ve got what?”
She then laughed and explained, again seeming to say cannabis plant, that they were milk jug-shaped plants that catch flies.
Fans at home were very confused and took to social media to react.
“Sorry, I believe I heard... cannabis plants?!” said one fan.
Another agreed: “Did she say cannabis plants?"
'“Please don't tell me I'm the only one who heard 'cannabis plants' at first?” asked a third user, while a fourth chimed in: “Brad: 'What do you do to relax?' Contestant: “Cannabis Brad.”
This week, the quartet went up against Shaun ‘The Dark Destroyer’ Wallace who made sure to bring his A-game as he faced off against the wise players.
Evie was not so lucky and was booted off the by Shaun, who was on top form.
Shaun Wallace has revealed how much he earns from the game show when compared with his day job as a barrister.
Wallace, a quizzing expert who won Mastermind in 2004, said that his takings from the show are in the “six-zero territory” – and that he earns ten times the amount he was before signing up to the ITV series.
But despite this hefty sum, he continues his work as a barrister to supplement his earnings, with The Chase comprising 70 per cent of his income with “the legal side” covering 30 per cent.
Wallace told The Times that his earnings have “increased massively since I’ve started working in TV,” Wallace said, adding: “I still practice [as a barrister], though, so I have dual income.”
Wallace has appeared as a “chaser” on the ITV game show since 2009, earning himself the nickname of “The Dark Destroyer”.
