The Chase presenter Bradley Walsh watched as three contestants walked away with an eye-watering prize after beating Darragh Ennis.
Darragh Ennis issued a statement after suffering a record-breaking defeat on The Chase.
Thursday's instalment (January 23) of the ITV game show saw four new contestants take on Darragh. After knocking out just one player during the head-to-heads, The Menace went up against three contestants in the final chase.
But the pressure was on as he attempted to stop them from winning an eye-watering £75,000.
Jake, Laura and Frank ended on a score of 22, leaving Darragh concerned about whether he could catch them. The pressure appeared to take over early on, with the chaser answering questions incorrectly from the get-go.
The 44-year-old, who was once a contestant on the show, went on to answer several questions wrong during the final chase, leaving him unable to catch the team's score.
At the end of the show, Darrah confessed: "I said it was going to be very difficult and realistically, 23 or 24 is about as much as we can catch in two minutes."
Pointing out his mistake, Darragh continued: "I got one wrong very early and I started making a few little mistakes trying to go quick. But you set a high target, I wasn't able to match it. Well done, you deserve the money."
Today's show kickstarted with Jake, who answered five questions correctly in his cash builder. The software designer wasn't tempted by Darragh's other offers, choosing to stick with £4,000.
The 42-year-old showcased his impressive knowledge and became the first player through to the final chase. Hoping to add to the prize pot was Laura, a help desk supervisor from Stockport.
Like her teammate, she chose to stick with the middle offer of £5,000 before joining Jake in the final chase.
Third to take on Darragh was Leila, a primary school teacher from Cardiff. Unfortunately for the 35-year-old, she only answered two questions correctly in the cash builder and was later caught by Darragh.
This meant it was up to Frank to add as much as he could into the prize pot. And that he did. The 69-year-old couldn't resist Darragh's high offer and played for an eye-watering £66,000.
The retired electrical technician put on a jaw-dropping display in the head-to-head, making it through to the final chase and taking the team's total to a whopping £75,000. After winning the game, the trio walked away with £25,000 each.
