The Liverpool-born TV star will test her wits on The Chase on Sunday
Loose Women's Sunetra Sarker will take part in a celebrity edition of The Chase on Sunday. The spin-off version of the hit ITV quiz show will see Sunetra join Matty Lee, David Arnold and Basil Brush as the team of contestants who will test their wits against one of the UK's best quizzers.
The Liverpool-born actress is a familiar face on our TV screens, after having shot to fame on the hit Channel 4 soap Brookside, from 1988 to 1990 as Nisha Batra. She also landed the role of Clare Burns on BBC drama The Chase, but the show was cancelled after its second series.
Another notable role was her portrayal of Dr Zoe Hanna in the BBC medical drama Casualty from December 2007 until May 2016. She has remained a prominent part of UK television ever since, staring in ITV's Safe House, Channel 4's Ackley Bridge, BBC's The Responder and ITV's Playing Nice.
Away from her roles in numerous crime dramas, Sunetra traded the TV set for the ballroom in 2014 when she appeared on Strictly Come Dancing alongside professional dancer Brendan Cole.
Off screen, Sunetra has had two marriages - the first of which ended in divorce. She married Nick Corfield in 2003, and the couple had one child, Noah, together a few years afterwards. Now, she is happily married to Scott Carey. The couple knew each other from college in the 1990s but reconnected in 2012 after both going through separate divorces.
The actress became a panellist on ITV's daytime show Loose Women in 2021. She regularly opens up about her life away from the cameras to her co-stars.
Most recently, she appeared alongside Christine Lampard, Kelly Brook and Gloria Hunniford and spoke about her wedding dress "nightmare."
Sunetra explained to viewers she had chosen the perfect dress, but ended up having to change her plans at the last minute after a conversation with a friend.
She shared: "I live near a little village which has got a wedding dress shop, and when me and Scott got engaged, I was like, 'that's where I'll go'." She continued: "I chose the best dress I liked in there, thought it looked really nice. I thought I looked great.
"I went through the fittings, I had my last fitting and my friend Simon, who I've known for like 20, 30 years, he and his wife came to visit and his wife's really honest and I helped her find her wedding dress years ago."
When Sunetra showed her friend her dress, her friend responded: "As long as you like it, that's all that matters." Sunetra told the panel: "Of course I started back-pedalling and thought 'well this isn't what I wanted' and held back the tears.
"One week before the wedding, I start driving and cheating on my wedding dress and I go and buy a second wedding dress. We didn't have the money for it, I didn't tell Scott." In the end, Sunetra wore the new dress on her special day.
Taking to the comments, one fan said: "Oh dear, can’t imagine how you felt xx." A second said: "I did that. Nightmare for all involved!" Another wrote: "You should have gone with the first one, and trusted your instincts. Never let one person's opinion alter your own."
After a successful few years on Loose Women, Sunetra was lucky enough to continue her presenting duties at Eurovision which was held in Liverpool in 2023.
The 49-year-old actress told the ECHO at the time: "When I got the call for Eurovision asking if I'd like to present with Rylan I honestly thought they'd made a mistake. I said 'are you sure?'
"If ever there was a time when you want to see the most, unusual sport let's say, bringing Liverpool together, it's the sport of music coming to Liverpool. It's more than just a concert. I keep referring to it as a smaller Olympics - It's got that vibe. That level of pride for the country, for the city, for the context. There is some magic in here."
