TV presenter Elaine Crowley became the second celebrity to be eliminated from Dancing with the Stars last night.
After the show, Crowley said she was doing it for her nephews and that the show was “one of the most difficult things I’ve done in my life”.
Crowley and her pro partner Denys Samson did a jive to You Can't Stop the Beat from Hairspray for Movie Week.
“I was doing it for my nephews, because it’s been a rough few years for them, and, you know, they've had a rough enough time,” she said.
“I wanted to dance, bring them up to watch the show and dance in front of them so they could mock me, basically, and have a bit of a giggle.”
Crowley lost her nephew Ultan (11) to a rare form of cancer in 2023.
“I just wanted to do it to cheer my family up, to be quite honest, that's the only reason,” she said
“I didn't do it for myself, or that way I did it for my family, to give them a giggle, because, I mean, it's not something I ever pursued, or ever could have imagined myself doing.”
The Virgin Media star said the show was “probably one of the most difficult things I've done in my life”.
“I'm not going to lie, it was very challenging, very, very hard. I'm banjaxed from it. My calves are rock hard and they're really, really sore. I could barely walk this morning.
“I'm very used to live television. I don't mind live television at all. Tonight was the most nervous I've ever been on live television. And I've been doing television for 25 years, So that says a lot.”
Crowley said the show has been a “rewarding” experience and she was starting to gain her confidence back in the second half of last night’s dance after it was knocked the week before.
“There is a huge disappointment. And I feel I let my family down a bit, and I've let Denys down a bit, but, you know, in the greater scheme of things, nobody died. I'm still here. I still have my job, I still have my life,” she said.
“You have to put life in a bit of perspective. Yes, it would be lovely to stay dancing but in the greater scheme of things, it's a TV show. And more a TV show than a dance competition, and it's, you know, there's a lot of horrible things happening in the world, and I think you need to be a bit realistic about how important some of these things are.
“Yes, I got kicked out of Dancing with the Stars second which is a bit more mortifying to be quite honest. But on the other hand, nothing serious happened. Everyone is still alive. I'm still alive. My limbs are still in place, just about and, you know, you just have to really put life in perspective and see what happens.”
