What did you miss?

Maura Higgins has revealed she was asked to do hit BBC show The Traitors - but turned it down.

The former I'm A Celebrity and Love Island contestant told Loose Women that she was asked to complete a stint in the Scottish castle around a year ago, but had said no because she thought the other players would work her out immediately.

However, she hasn't ruled out agreeing to a future series, with stars including Courteney Cox, Stephen Fry, Alan Carr and Tess Daly rumoured for a celebrity version of the contest.

What, how, and why?

The Traitors is currently gripping audiences with its third series of backstabbing competition and fans are clamouring for more action from the castle with a celebrity spin-off on the horizon.

But while there have been plenty of names rumoured for the cast, reality TV star Maura Higgins appears to have ruled herself out as she told Loose Women on Friday that she had already turned down an appearance in The Traitors.

Host Kaye Adams asked her about her stint in I'm A Celebrity which began with the former Love Islander having to lie to campmates that she had been put up in a rudimentary camp when she was actually living in luxury.

Adams pointed out that Higgins being so good at lying to her campmates would make her a good player in The Traitors, but Higgins replied: "Do you think I am though? I'd probably do it if maybe Coleen Rooney wasn't in there. She worked me out, I thought I was being very good."

Rooney had picked up on Higgins not seeming quite as stressed by her jungle accommodation as she claimed to be before the truth came out.

Higgins then shared: "I actually turned down The Traitors before, maybe a year ago." Asked why, she explained: "I don't know, I just thought people will work me out. I'd rather be a Traitor than a Faithful. I like to be a bit devious. I don't know if I'll ever do it. I mean it's a great show. I'd probably be figured out."

Another ex-Love Island star, Ekin-Su Culculoglu, took part in a US version of The Traitors that mixed famous and regular contestants, as did former Speaker of the House of Commons John Bercow.

It isn't clear whether Higgins had turned down that version or the forthcoming UK celebrity one, but she added that it wasn't the only show she had said no to.

Higgins' ex and former Love Island co-star Curtis Pritchard is currently taking part in Love Island: All Stars and while she said she is watching the series, she won't be entering the villa as a bombshell any time soon.

Asked if she would go into Love Island: All Stars, she said: "No, I think my dating show days are done. I don't want to go on a dating show. I've turned down All Stars before, I've turned down Celebs Go Dating. I've done it once."

Who is rumoured for Celebrity Traitors?

The Traitors is everyone's current favourite TV show, and the rumoured list of big names said to be lined up for a celebrity version certainly cements the programme's star status.

Friends star Courteney Cox was the first name said to be attached to the show as she is a close pal of Traitors host Claudia Winkleman.

Since then, Stephen Fry has been reported as being a near dead cert for the cast, with him calling the prospect of taking part "an interesting idea".

He and Cox could be in good company as Chatty Man host Alan Carr is said to be getting involved, along with Clare Balding, Robert Peston, Tom Daley and Jonathan Ross.

Winkleman may have recruited another famous friend, too - her Strictly Come Dancing co-host Tess Daly is rumoured to be taking part along with her BBC Radio 2 presenter husband Vernon Kay.

Loose Women airs on ITV1 at 12:30pm on weekdays.
