How Mimi Sanders & NFL Pro, Steve Sanders, Make Marriage Work: "Forgive" (EXCLUSIVE) liennhi

Love is always in the air for Dr. Mimi Sanders and her ex-NFL pro player husband, Steve Sanders. But that doesn't mean it's smooth sailing at every turn. The Married to Medicine couple, however, have found the perfect recipe to keep their marriage of a decade strong.

"So Steve and I have been married for 10 years, and marriage is hard," Mimi told The Daily Daish in a recent exclusive interview, with a laugh. "And so, we have to really recognize, 'Hey, where are you in terms of, like, what percentage are you?' [or] 'Hey, I am at a five right now and so I need some help.' Or also, 'Hey, I really did not like the way that you said that to me and I didn’t receive that well, so can we talk about that because I’m feeling some type of way.' So making sure that we’re communicating where we are we in our own individual health or emotional health. How are we as a couple? What else do you need from me? So what is your love language during this season because it can change."

Mimi is a psychiatrist, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that she values communication in her marriage to Steve. She added, "So really just kind of communicate and understanding that, Hey, I’m going to get it wrong. I’m going to get it wrong sometimes and I’m going to be deadass wrong sometimes. And call me out on it, but please call me out of [it] in love and just forgive me. Forgiveness and [then] apologizes fast. Apologizing fast and we can reconcile later. But, like, let’s apologize fast."

Mimi also shared how she and her husband, whose post-NFL career includes his work as a co-founder of Inner Community Health as well as the serving as the Regional Director of Nike Sports Camps, manage to make it all work as they raise their three children: Armier, Stevie, and Savannah.

"I need to balance it because in this season in my life, there’s no balance. There has to be integration. It’s not uncommon that Steve [has] got to go pick up the kids today, and I have to do this and bring the kids back to the office. And this is after hours, so the kids may be running up and down the hallway," she shared about what their day could look like. "And maybe cooking dinner or picking up dinner, so they can have it here. So it’s just a lot. I had to really realize that hey, this is a busy season. It’s a busy season for our family, and so it may not be that balanced, it may be more of an integration. And this is making sure that it works for everybody and making sure that everybody is feeling heard, feeling, of course, cared for, and, they’re enjoying. We can actually enjoy this busy season of integration."
