Ex-EastEnders star Joe Absolom joined the Loose Women to talk about his new Emmerdale role
Emmerdale has welcomed new character Ray to the village, and judging from his first impression during Tuesday's episode (July 1), he is bad news and will cause trouble for the locals.
Former EastEnders Joe Absolom is playing the part of newcomer Ray on the ITV soap, and the actor joined the latest instalment of Loose Women to talk about his latest television role.
The 46-year-old explained to the panel consisting of Ruth Langford, Janet Street -Porter, Denise Welch, and Jane Moore, that he now lives in Cornwall with his family and has enjoyed visiting Leeds to film his Emmerdale scenes.
He also confessed to telling Robert Sugden actor Ryan Hawley a lie on his first day at the studios in order to make a good impression.
During his interview on the ITV daytime show, Joe mentioned he finds it easier to play a bad boy role than to have to be consistently smiling.
This sparked Janet to ask: "When it was your first day on Emmerdale and you’re going in as the new boy, what face did you put on then?"
The question sparked Joe to admit that during an initial conversation with his co-star Ryan, who recently returned to the show after a six-year break, he lied about being a keen surfer despite only taking to the waves around three times over the past decade.
Joe confessed: "Well, with Ryan who plays Robert Sugden, we’re just talking and it’s my first day, so I’m trying to impress.
"He said ‘where do you live?’ so I said ‘I live in Cornwall’. He said ‘do you surf?’ and I was like ‘yeah, I surf’."
Joe added: "I have lived in Cornwall for 11 years and I have been surfing maybe three times. And even so that wasn’t what I was doing, you know I had a board and fell off it."
Ryan had then asked Joe about the large number of “beach breaks” in Cornwall and which surfboard he uses, which prompted Joe to elaborate on his lie.
Joe joked: "He asked, is it a left hand or a right hand, I didn’t realises he is like the Keanu Reeves of surfing. So yeah, that was my first day of trying to impress."
Joe Absolom's first episode of Emmerdale is available now on ITVX and airs tonight on ITV at 7pm
Loose Women airs weekdays at 12:30pm on ITV and ITVX, while Emmerdale airs weekdays.
